Al Fahim Group saves 14% energy in 11 months, thereby reducing 1,083 tons of CO2

After signing an agreement with Emirates Energy Star (EES), an environmentally aware organization aimed at reducing the carbon footprint of the UAE in collaboration with Etisalat, Al Fahim Group has proudly saved 14% energy from April 2013 to February 2014, also explained as reducing 1,083 tons of carbon dioxide going into the atmosphere or planting 232 trees.
Emirates Energy Star’s program was installed in April 2013 in Al Fahim Group’s headquarters in Mussafah and entailed retrofitting Al Fahim Group’s building with machine-to-machine (M2M) sensors and managed energy monitoring services to help reduce energy consumption; hence, the overall carbon footprint of the country. The program
“Our successful partnership with EES supports Al Fahim Group’s culture of preserving energy, recycling, reducing and reusing,” commented His Excellency Saeed Abdul Jalil Al Fahim, Chairman of Al Fahim Group. “It is important to realize that this is a strategic decision. Reducing energy consumption reduces greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, reliance on fossil fuels and fuel bills.”
Moreover, EES has cited that buildings are responsible for 60% of the world’s electricity consumption and one third of GHG emissions from energy use making them the single largest source of GHGs produced by human activity. The EES program aims to reduce 20% of energy consumed and 20% of carbon footprint of buildings by 2015 and has already registered 17% average energy savings through organizations such as Al Fahim Group who have willingly participated in the environmentally friendly program.

TTMC aims to reduce complexities by analyzing market trends and provide knowledge that is relevant and succinct for varied markets and segments, including travel, tourism, hospitality, aviation and destination marketing sectors. The second tier offers opportunities for both Corporate and Executive Memberships seeking enhanced intelligence, industry news and regular networking events that provide a broader perspective on industry trends. Corporate Memberships will also pave the way for valuable partnership opportunities for organizations that aim to deepen their footprint in the region. The third tier is an Affiliate Membership program for young graduates who are passionate about travel & tourism and keen to access a world of opportunities for career progression through TTMC’s quality content platform and exposure to a relevant network.

Cedric Scherer, Managing Partner at The ScherWick Group and Director of Strategy for TTMC adds, “I have always been frustrated by fragmented statistical data and limited insights about the regional market as a whole, so I am looking forward to putting my skills to the service of my peers. TTMC’s mission and accessibility is increasingly relevant to today’s generation with the predominance of ‘Big Data’ distracting us from our daily business goals.’

Montegrappa launches writing competition to celebrate
the beautiful game and its king Pelé

Long before Maradona, David Beckham, Thierry Henry, Ronaldo or Messi laid claims to the crown of the beautiful game, Edson Arantes do Nascimento, the man who became known the world over as Pelé, was the one footballer every kid wanted to be like. His pace and skills were mesmerising, his spectacular goals made him a legend around the world, and the most influential ambassador the game of football could wish for.
With the World Cup fast approaching, Montegrappa, Italy's oldest manufacturer of luxury writing instruments, marks this momentous occasion with the launch of a ‘Write to Pelé’ competition, www.writetopele.com, running May 1 – June 30, 2014,

which aims to enthuse the region’s long-standing football and Pele fans, as well as connect one lucky winner to Pelé himself.
“At Montegrappa we are passionate about extraordinary stories and legends, which have always been part of the fabric of our brand. So, it is a joy to celebrate the tradition of storytelling, Pelé and the game of football which brings cultures and people together, through the limited edition Montegrappa ‘Icons’ Pelé pen series. We are also genuinely excited by the prospect of connecting football and Pelé fans to their idol,” said Mr Giuseppe Aquila, CEO of Montegrappa Italia.
Two designs have been created for the Pelé Icons Pen Limited Edition. The Heritage is offered in models with solid gold or solid silver trim. The cap features the Brazilian flag and its top is shaped like a football, atop a crown that reads ‘All Hail The King’. Pelé’s signature and the dates of 1958-1962-1970 (the years Pelé won his three FIFA World CupsTM) are etched at the nib’s ends.  The Heritage solid silver trim edition consists of 1283 fountain pens and 1283 rollerball pens representing the number of goals scored in his entire career, while the gold edition is limited to 10 fountain pens and 10 roller balls, signifying his jersey number.
Made of black resin, the P10 Edition features silver trims, with the top inspired by the Maracanã Stadium in Rio de Janeiro, the colours of Brazil filled in with enamel. The P10’s clip is a sceptre, to represent ‘The King of Football’, with a miniature football containing a sapphire at its top. The legend, ‘The King of Football’, is engraved around cap, with Pelé’s signature on the side of the cap in white. The P10 is available in 1940 pieces, a mix of fountain pens, rollerballs and ballpoints, representing the year of Pelé’s birth. The P-10 edition is also offered in an exclusive version consisting of 10 fountain pens and 10 rollerballs with solid 18K gold trim.
Pelé’s career achievements and recognitions are simply unequalled: 1281 goals in 1363 games (he holds the Guinness World Record for the most successful league goal scorer); 541 league goals, winner of three FIFA World Cups (1958, 1962 and 1970); two Copa Libertadores (1962, 1963) with his club Santos; World Player of the Century (1999); Football Player of the Century (1999, by Ballon D'Or winners); Athlete of the Century (1999, IOC), FIFA Ballon d'Or Prix d'Honneur (2013).
But, it’s not just his football skills that made him a global icon.  Pelé, like all heroes and legends, has a storied history. When he got injured in the 1966 World Cup, fans all over the world cried for him. When he won the final of the 1970 World Cup everybody rejoiced with him. When he visited Nigeria during its violent civil war (1967 – 1970) the opposing parties called for a two-day truce, so that the country could witness Pelé’s football wizardry.
Naturally, all Pelé fans know of these and many more triumphs and extraordinary events he was part of. And now, they have the unique chance to connect with their idol, write to him and receive a letter from Pelé himself!

@dornbracht Dornbracht adds new dimension to Bathroom designs with the introduction of modular systems and digital tools that meet individual tastes and lifestyles

Dornbracht adds new dimension to Bathroom designs with the introduction of modular systems and digital tools that meet individual tastes and lifestyles

Dornbracht, the German manufacturer of high-end fittings and fixtures for the kitchen and bathroom, has introduced  a new range of specialised module systems that can be assembled  for different product ranges, while expanding on digital technology in the bathroom, creating a highly personalised and tailored  experience for its users.

With individuality becoming a megatrend in architecture and interior design,  bathroom design has evolved to mirror this trend with the focus now on the individual user‘s needs and peferences. With the evolution of the bathroom from a functional space to an intimate place for relaxation and rejuvenation, its various features and zones have been introduced to match individual’s moods. Shower or bathe? Relax or rejuvenate? Gentle flow or invigorating stream? Today, bathroom design can be partitioned into different zones to suit every scenario.

The term “Sampling”  refers to the option to “mix and match“ different designs, products and features according to the indivudal needs of the user. Thanks to unified design across all of its products, Dornbracht allows for a multi-design, multi-series interplay on a modular basis. Products from different series can be combined with one another and used universally. For example, the flow spout on the Deque series foot bath, the MEM fitting on the wash stand and the towel rack by Symetrics on the wall is just one possibility among many for shaping the bathroom to suit personal needs. There are no limits to the combinations of function and design that can be achieved.

The focus on individual  rituals and activities and the creation of a space to suit these needs, has been a focus for Dornbracht for a number of years.  At Dornbracht, this approach is referred to as 'ritual architecture'. The introduction of Symetrics modular system in 2009, based on the arrangement of freely selectable items, marked the start of a new, individual understanding of bathroom architecture at Dornbracht, one that is the foundation of the sampling idea that defines its product portofolio today.

The same principle applies to the products’ functionality. Alongside conventional, mechanical controls, many applications can also be operated using new, digital controls – the Smart Tools. Water temperature and flow can be precision-controlled with a single flick of the wrist; useful pre-set settings and complex choreographies can be activated at the press of a button. The language of design behind the controls is timelessly discreet as well, whether mechanical or digital, with control dials and display switches in unobtrusive forms to fit seamlessly in an individual bathroom design.

Bathroom architecture is individualised not only through flexible sampling of series, functions and designs, but through more specific products as well. Under the heading of 'Water Modules', Dornbracht has developed new, specialised outlets that are precision-tuned to bathroom rituals and activities: for instance, a retractable faucet for shower, wash stand and foot bath enables invigorating forehead, arm, calf or thigh treatments based on the hydrotherapy approach developed by Sebastian Kneipp. A retractable, hand-held shower head with a broad water jet has been developed specially for hair washing at the wash stand. The pivoting outlet on the wash stand can be used not only for hand washing but also converts into a mouth rinse with a flick of the wrist.

Depending on the series, available finishes include chrome, platinum, platinum matte, black matte or champagne.
