# VIVABeautyAwards
The date is saved in the diary, the venue is set and hundreds of glamorous guests are waiting in anticipation for what is known to be the most spectacular event on the calendar: the seventh annual VIVA Beauty Awards. Held on May 22, 2014, at the magnificent JW Marriott Marquis, this year’s Awards celebrate eternal beauty icons who continue to fascinate us and inspire the worlds of beauty and fashion.

After weeks of testing and evaluating - which was hard work, but highly enjoyable - hundreds of beauty products across categories such as skin care, hair care, make-up and fragrance have been whittled down to an outstanding shortlist, by the VIVA team and a beauty panel that included make-up artist Sophie Leach, presenter Gabriela Miloda, and blogger Zahra Lyla Pedram.
This year there are 21 VIVA Beauty Awards presented across 10 categories in the prestige and mass market respectively, celebrating the products women turn to for their beauty needs, such as: Best Foundation, Best Perfume, Best Mascara, Best Nail Polish, Best Hair Salon, Best Nail Spa, Best Anti-Ageing Product, Best Hair Product, Best Face Moisturiser, Best Lipstick, Best Body Product and the Editor's Choice Cult Classic.

The winners will be picked by readers, who, as usual, have the final say. So, log on to www.vivabeautyawards.com by May 10, 2014, to cast your vote for your favourite beauty picks, and you will enter the draw to win a cash prize of AED 5,000!
“We are very proud of the role the VIVA Beauty Awards has come to play in the beauty industry over the years: the Awards badge has become a sought-after token of appreciation for brands, highlighting the choices consumers make for their beauty needs. But, equally important, it has also provided women in the Middle East with a brand new perspective on beauty, from cutting edge formulations and new ingredients, to novel approaches to solving beauty problems,” said Anita Quade, Editor of VIVA magazine.
2014 is a very special year for home-grown title VIVA, the biggest selling women’s monthly glossy magazine across the GCC, as it celebrates its 10-year anniversary. To mark this milestone, the magazine reaffirmed its focus on readers with a new slogan, ‘All About You’; and also debuted a new look in a handbag-friendly format, which makes it the perfect accompaniment for the woman on the go.
Created in 2006, the VIVA Beauty Awards have gone from strength to strength in boosting awareness about the breadth and depth of the beauty industry, from high-end prestige brands, to brands found in convenience and drug stores.
This year’s VIVA Beauty Awards are sponsored by The National Health Insurance Company Daman.

Nay Restaurant & Lounge opens its doors at the heart of DIFC

Nay Restaurant & Lounge, the newest addition to the vibrant culinary offerings of the DIFC, opens at the Concourse level of Emirates Financial Towers to serve a harmonious fusion of authentic Lebanese cuisine with contemporary influences. Its name is derived from the Arabic word “nay”, a wind-blown musical instrument similar to a flute that originated in the Middle East almost 5,000 years ago.

Nay Restaurant & Lounge is ready to offer a melody of flavors, entertainment and fine dining experiences daily from 12:30pm to 3:00am. Its exquisite menu of classic Lebanese dishes with a modern twist is created by award-winning Executive Chef Elie Georges Lteif who has more than 12 years of experience from various renowned restaurants and even catering for royal events in the region. The selection features hot and cold mezzeh, fresh raw meat, charcoal grills, seafood, salads, desserts and fresh juices and cocktails. The Fattet Kabab Bil Karaz, meatballs stuffed with cherries and served with yoghurt, roasted Arabic bread, eggplant and pine nuts; and fresh Hamour fillet with black olive mashed potatoes, sautéed vegetables and lemon butter sauce are a must-try.

These mouthwatering dishes can be enjoyed inside the restaurant that boasts decors and colors paying homage to its Lebanese roots. Dark wood, patterned velvets and leathers in a distinct color palette of orange, red, maroon, blue and purple dominate the interiors while high ceilings and large windows give an open, light feeling. The Sky Nay provides an alternate atmosphere for those who opt to see the stunning outdoor view from this air-conditioned terrace enclosed by glass and wood.
The entertainment line-up for Layally Nay from 11:00pm to 3:00am adds to Nay’s overall charm. During weekdays, a DJ and singers will serenade guests while live performances and dancers will brighten up the venue on weekends. Other cultural activities to support Middle Eastern arts, fashion and literature are also in the pipeline.

@CUDUAE LARGEST PAINTING OF SHEIKH ZAYED TO BE CREATED IN THE DUBAI DESERT

Sylvain Tremblay to create portrait out of sand

Internationally renowned artist and Canadian University of Dubai lecturer Sylvain Tremblay is making final preparations to create the largest ever portrait of the late Sheikh Zayed out of sand.
The painting will be created in the desert just outside Dubai on May 12th when Tremblay, who specialises in creating artworks that celebrate culture and traditions around the world, will drop sand collected from the desert onto a 10m by 10m canvass from a hot air balloon 15 metres in the air to create a high contrast image.
The technique is one invented by Tremblay himself, a style he developed and honed at Canadian University of Dubai. Using the University’s roof as a preparation space, he has practiced many times on smaller canvases to ensure everything goes to plan.
This week he will attempt a trial run in the desert and he admits that this is the most challenging project of his career.
“This is the most inspiring thing I have done and definitely the most technically difficult,” he said. “We are dealing with the elements of the desert and I will be floating between 10 and 20m above the ground, so there is plenty of opportunity for things to work against us.
“The technique is one I first tried at an inventors convention in Abu Dhabi, but Canadian University of Dubai have supported me as I perfected it.
“It’s a great honour for me to be able to produce the biggest painted portrait of the great Sheikh Zayed. It was important to me when planning the performance that everything was natural and that it paid tribute to the UAE’s natural elements. The desert was the natural place to do this and using sand from the desert made the perfect choice.”

Diesel Black Gold Women’s Pre Fall 2014
Uniforms and military wear, their structured lines, decorative accents, and prints provide a sharp point of view for Diesel Black Gold Women’s Pre-Fall 2014 Collection.

Structured outerwear and jackets, including a wool gabardine field coat and tailored jackets are balanced with softer elements in lace trimmed slip georgette silk dresses, some in hybrid camouflage-animal prints.
Jacquard sweaters are knitted with the same hybrid camouflage-animal patterns in hues of military green, black, gray and white.

Men’s tailoring codes inform slim button down shirts, flannel wool tuxedo jackets with metal stud encrusted lapels.

Diesel Black Gold DNA of denim and leather showcase strong cuts and textures. Black leather biker jackets come detailed with studs and zips. They are lean and fitted with seams and stitch details articulating their shapes. Jeans feature military green and black camouflage designs, rows of vertical studs running down the leg or black or silver metallic foiled patinas.

Silver studs cover straps on the ankle of biker style boots. Studs also detail a pair of ankle strap sandals and narrow belts. Tonal studs cover a black clutch, while the structure and polish of black box calf gives rectangular clutches and shoulder bags a sharp finish.

Al Fahim Group saves 14% energy in 11 months, thereby reducing 1,083 tons of CO2

After signing an agreement with Emirates Energy Star (EES), an environmentally aware organization aimed at reducing the carbon footprint of the UAE in collaboration with Etisalat, Al Fahim Group has proudly saved 14% energy from April 2013 to February 2014, also explained as reducing 1,083 tons of carbon dioxide going into the atmosphere or planting 232 trees.
Emirates Energy Star’s program was installed in April 2013 in Al Fahim Group’s headquarters in Mussafah and entailed retrofitting Al Fahim Group’s building with machine-to-machine (M2M) sensors and managed energy monitoring services to help reduce energy consumption; hence, the overall carbon footprint of the country. The program
“Our successful partnership with EES supports Al Fahim Group’s culture of preserving energy, recycling, reducing and reusing,” commented His Excellency Saeed Abdul Jalil Al Fahim, Chairman of Al Fahim Group. “It is important to realize that this is a strategic decision. Reducing energy consumption reduces greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, reliance on fossil fuels and fuel bills.”
Moreover, EES has cited that buildings are responsible for 60% of the world’s electricity consumption and one third of GHG emissions from energy use making them the single largest source of GHGs produced by human activity. The EES program aims to reduce 20% of energy consumed and 20% of carbon footprint of buildings by 2015 and has already registered 17% average energy savings through organizations such as Al Fahim Group who have willingly participated in the environmentally friendly program.
