Mercedes-Benz Middle East and Levant sales boom with best ever monthly sales

One year of double digit growth: Year to date sales up 20% on 2011

Dubai, UAE: The Mercedes-Benz Middle East and Levant ‘Year of SUV and AMG’ is on track to cross the finish line with a best ever sales year in 2012, recording best ever overall monthly sales in September, and year to date (YTD) sales up 20% on 2011. Capping 12 consecutive months of double digit growth, the milestone achievement includes a best ever sales month for the Mercedes-AMG performance division, as well as record September sales for general distributors in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain and Iraq.

Spearheading Mercedes-Benz SUV market share growth strategy was the M-Class, with YTD sales up 24%.  Still refusing to rest on its laurels, the relentless success of the G-Class continues with sales of the G 55 AMG and newly launched G 63 AMG and G 65 AMG variants up 40%. Sales for the flagship seven-seater GL were also up 25%.

AMG, the second of Mercedes-Benz two pronged 2012 sales strategy, recorded a best sales month ever in September, smashing its previous record in January 2009. September sales were up 228% on 2011, whilst year to dates sales accelerated by 68%. Fueling the boost were the newly launched G 63 AMG and G 65 AMG variants, as well as the most powerful C-Class of all time - C 63 AMG Coupé Black Series; the athletic and sporty SLK 55 AMG Roadster; dual personality E 63 AMG executive saloon; and 525hp, zero to 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds ML 63 AMG.

Beyond the AMG and SUV strategy, the E-Class continues to represent one of Mercedes-Benz most popular models with customers in the Middle East, recently surpassing 15,000 unit sales for saloon, coupe, and cabriolet variants.

Frank Bernthaler, Director, Sales and Marketing, Mercedes-Benz Cars, Middle East & Levant said: “The luxury car business for Mercedes-Benz is not driven by one single market – it is from the whole region. By working closely with our country partners to execute a clear regional strategy, we have been able to consistently achieve peak sales performances as we strive for a record year in 2012.”

The remainder of the year will see more launches from Mercedes-Benz luxury off-road division, including the dynamic all-purpose GLK compact SUV and top of the range seven-seater flagship GL. The recent launch of the lightweight, athletic and luxurious SL Roadster is also expected to help Mercedes-Benz sales finish strongly, assisted by the high performance SL 63 AMG and SL 65 AMG Affalterbach variants.

NBAD Exclusive ATM Provider at Formula 1 Venue

The National Bank of Abu Dhabi (NBAD), the Number One Bank in the UAE and the Official Bank of 2012 FORMULA 1 ETIHAD AIRWAYS ABU DHABI GRAND PRIX, will offer ATM Services to F1™ race-goers through its 24 ATMs at Yas Marina Circuit, the only bank authorised to do at the arena.
Moreover, NBAD ATMs are spread throughout the Island and throughout hotels, Ferrari Park and Permanent Activities Tent.
“We are pleased that NBAD continues to be the exclusive provider of ATM services at this most anticipated event in Abu Dhabi’s calendar,” says Ahmed Al-Naqbi, the Head of Direct Banking and E-Development at NBAD. “NBAD offers one of the most extensive ATM networks in the country and being the exclusive bank to provide ATMs at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix confirms our identity as the strongest bank in the country.”
Recently, NBAD has renewed its sponsorship commitment to Yas Marina Circuit as Founding Partner of the state-of-the-art Circuit for three years.
NBAD has 11 of its ATMs inside kiosks designed in the shape of One NBAD Tower, the Bank’s head office in Abu Dhabi and a city landmark. This would allow people in the Yas Marina Circuit to easily identify and locate an ATM.

“We designed the new ATMs in the shape of our head office to enhance the aesthetics in Yas Island and to reflect our forward-looking and technology-driven culture,” Mr. Al-Naqbi says.

NBAD operates about 560 ATMs across the UAE. Last year, NBAD inaugurated the region’s first solar powered ATM, which runs off a battery charged by solar panels.

NBAD ATMs on Yas Island provide easy access for race-goers as well as residents and visitors of Yas Island to perform a variety of transactions such as cash withdrawal, payment of bills, credit card payment, money transfer, balance enquiry, request for statement and chequebook, and the mobile money payment service Arrow.

This is the fourth year in a row that Formula 1™ returns to Abu Dhabi and also the fourth time that NBAD is the Official Bank of this most anticipated event in the international sporting calendar.
NBAD is also Official Founding Partner of the state-of-the-art Yas Marina Circuit (YMC), which is rated the best racing circuit in the world.
“As the Official Bank of the 2012 Formula 1™ Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix and Founding Partner of Yas Marina Circuit, we are pleased to be working with our partners in making this event one of Abu Dhabi’s most important and memorable moments,” explains May Ibrahim Bumajeed, the Deputy Head of Corporate Communication Department at NBAD.
As the Official Bank of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, NBAD is engaged in organising the activities for F1. Every year the NBAD Display Site, located in the F1 Village also known as Main Oasis, offers a host of activities to entertain guests from around the world. In addition, NBAD is bringing Titan the Robot to Abu Dhabi to add to the festive mood on YMC.
Yas Island plays an integral part in the development of Abu Dhabi as a leading international city with world class sporting and recreational facilities.
“NBAD is committed to supporting Abu Dhabi’s vision to become a global hub of commerce and culture,” Ms. Bumajeed concludes.

Three Out Of Ten SMEs In The UAE Owned By Women

More than 30 per cent of firms in the UAE’s SME sector are owned by women, according to UAE-based learning consultant, Carol Talbot.

Passion Is Leadership Trump Card

·        Women leaders will create more than 5m jobs in the SME sector in USA by 2018

Dubai, UAE October 2012: More than 30 per cent of firms in the UAE’s SME sector are owned by women, according to UAE-based learning consultant, Carol Talbot.

She cited a recent study by the UAE’s Ministry of Economy that suggests Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) accounted for 60 per cent to the nation’s GDP in 2011. “Given that a third of SME’s are owned by women, then by default women in business contribute significant amount to the national purse,” said Talbot.

Looking further afield, Talbot also noted that the UAE statistics mirror global figures that show more than 30 per cent of registered businesses worldwide are female-owned entities. Indeed, by 2018, forecasts suggest that more than half of the 9.72 million jobs available in the SME sector in USA will be created by businesses owned by women.

“Women seem to have emerged from the global financial crisis stronger and savvier, making a real movement of women’s entrepreneurship,” she said, adding that the emergence of women entrepreneurs is also down to the female penchant for passion.

However, Talbot also noted that many women often shy away from leading their businesses and teams to greater heights for fear of being seen as ‘too aggressive and ambitious’.

Talbot believes that facing the self-imposed limits and pushing boundaries will see more women entrepreneurs realising their ambitions.

“Authentic leadership comes from within and is often guided by deep beliefs held by the individual. And this is good, as research suggests that success is a combination of drive, intellect, excellence, courage - and passion," she said.

Talbot is set to talk about this topic at the upcoming Heels & Deals event in Dubai on October 29 when she delivers her keynote, ‘Discovering Your Inner Leader – NLP for the entrepreneurial woman’.

“Imagine how your life could change if you lived in an open state of belief that anything is possible. Indeed, research shows that winners tap into their internal fire to recognise patterns of success. It is about what winners choose to do inside their head, and then use to create results.”

Talbot is a leading expert and Master Trainer in Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) and has worked with more than 20,000 people across multiple sectors in her twenty year career.

“NLP is a highly effective methodology based on the belief that all behaviour has a structure that can be modelled, learned and changed. Success does not happen by luck, incident or accident but rather led by an individual with discipline, drive and sense of purpose to make it happen,” she concluded.

Jumeirah at Etihad Towers Conference Centre sees strong corporate and luxury event demand within one year from opening

Jumeirah at Etihad Towers, a member of the luxury hotel group Jumeirah Hotels & Resorts, has announced that despite it being less than one year since it first opened its doors to the public in November 2011, demand for its Conference Centre, Mezzoon Ballroom and banqueting services has been robust among major corporate and signature luxury events held within the United Arab Emirate’s capital.
First opened on November 1, 2012, Jumeirah’s only property in Abu Dhabi has successfully staged major international events such as the official launch of the Sky News Arabia news broadcasting service, a special presentation and promotional event highlighting the Range Rover 4, and the IATA World Passenger Symposium which was held in October 2012. Coming major events will also see Jumeirah at Etihad Towers Conference Centre play host to the World Luxury Fashion Week, which will debut in Abu Dhabi from 25 – 28 November 2012. In addition to a continuous calendar of various distinctive corporate events, the distinctly modern and luxury landmark venue has also become the region’s wedding venue of choice, garnering awards such as “Middle East’s Leading Wedding Venue”, World Travel Awards 2012, and “Overall Best Business Hotel in the Middle East”, Business Traveller Middle East Awards 2012 to name a few.
Speaking in the lead up to the hotel’s participation at the Global Meetings & Events Exhibition (EIBTM), from 27 – 29 November, 2012 in Barcelona, Spain, Doris Greif, General Manager, Jumeirah at Etihad Towers stated: “Both awareness and bookings for our Conference Centre have continued to grow. The state-of-the-art technology, refined luxury interiors, gourmet banqueting options and in-house support services available at the Jumeirah at Etihad Towers Conference Centre have provided new options for clients to hold bespoke events in spectacular surroundings. We see our Conference Centre as a setting of elegance and “theatre” for clients to add their own individualised flair, and this approach has been warmly welcomed by event organisers and their clients.”
Designed to enhance the seamless coordination of events and uninterrupted flow of visiting guests and delegates, the Jumeirah at Etihad Towers Conference Centre, including its Mezzoon ballroom, all 13 meeting rooms, Chairman’s Suite, Bridal Suite, Business Centre and Events Showroom, is completely and uniquely housed on the same Podium 4 Level. This has the additional advantage of providing privacy for corporate and social groups. As one of the largest conference centres in Abu Dhabi, the Mezzoon ballroom alone can accommodate up to 1,400 guests in a conference setting or 1,000 guests for a sumptuous and individualised seated banquet dinner. For smaller events the ballroom can easily be divided into four separate sections. The spacious pre-function area with its indoor terrace views over the hotel’s lobby atrium provides guests with a sense of “theatre”. This design feature was specifically included as a successful event staging element, essential in establishing a pre-function ambience of invitation and open interaction.
Given the size of the Jumeirah at Etihad Towers Conference Centre, its strength for clients is its ability to provide bespoke services and tailored settings. A fully dedicated Events Showroom provides clients with an eclectic selection of pieces from which to browse and choose from and stems from the property’s total inventory of 317,000 quality European-designed silverware, glass and dining ware items, Italian linen and other carefully crafted decorator items. Additionally, clients have the freedom to personalise colour schemes and create design themes. Given the bespoke philosophy and STAY DIFFERENT™ approach to hosting each event, a dedicated event planner is on hand throughout the pre, post and event stages to provide professional assistance, expertise and guidance. The personalised support extends from banquet setting coordination through to the banqueting itself. Here too, various banqueting menus and “kits” based on experience and expertise are provided as examples, however clients have the choice and are encouraged to individualise their menus based on their own personal tastes and specified themes. In order to aid clients with a visual concept of banqueting options, a full menu of food and beverage choices are available on iPads for perusal. Through the employment of the latest technology, event spaces are also designed then and there during the on-site consultation process, so that clients have a visual mock-up of how their event space will appear on the day, and can immediately take copies of the plan with them.
The audiovisual technology employed by the Conference Centre is state-of-the-art and Jumeirah at Etihad Towers has partnered with SWANK, a US-based international leader in event audio visual operations, which has a permanent presence at the property and is available throughout to provide the necessary professional technical support.

Revamped Training Showjumping League Kicks off Emirates Equestrian Centre Season

Emirates Equestrian Centre (EEC), a part of Meydan Group, welcomes its first competitors of the 2012/13 season on Monday evening with the renewal of a nine-fixture Training Showjumping League.

The new-look Training Showjumping League, sponsored by Horseworld, is a developmental series of shows, offering an opportunity for the UAE’s top showjumpers to bring on young horses as well as providing a competitive arena for the country’s developing riders.

The shows provide a foundation for the EEC’s four National Showjumping Shows which will be held in November, December, February and March and each last two days.

The highlight of the EEC showjumping season is the CSI***-W Dubai Showjumping Championship, held over three days in January, which forms part of the region-wide Arab League and attracts top international riders from all over the world.

The best riders from the Middle East region, including Saudi Arabia’s World Equestrian Games silver medalist, Abdullah al Sharbatly and recent Irish Olympic bronze medalist, Cian O’Connor, are regulars at the show.

“The Training Shows help get people prepared for national shows by offering them the chance to bring their horses up to the required level,” said the EEC’s Jennifer Murray. “We often see our UAE internationals riders schooling new or young horses during these events. Due to the fact that the classes are organised according to height of fences, our younger or less exposed riders also get the chance to gain some valuable experience.”

The fences range in height from 60cm to 1.05m across four two-stage classes. The nine Training Showjumping League fixtures run throughout the EEC season, with competitors accumulating points to take into the league final on March 4, 2013.

Entry to the event is free to spectators. Food and beverages provided by the nearby Bab al Shams Desert Resort and Spa are available for purchase.

The UAE’s dressage fraternity will be focusing on the club’s eight Emirates Equestrian Federation affiliated dressage shows which run from November through to finals in April. Riders can earn qualification points from the first three shows for the EEC-hosted FEI World Dressage Challenge on December 15, while points from all eight shows will serve as qualification into the EEC Club Championships.

As the only British Horse Society-affiliated club in the region, the EEC also operates a branch of The Pony Club with a season-long schedule of rallies, clinics, gymkhanas and a season-ending Pony Club Camp.

About Soirée:
Soirée boutique on Dubai’s Al Wasl road opened its doors 3 years ago, showcasing the best of design from Pakistan. Having garnered a strong following from the UAE’s Asian and national community, the boutique has now evolved into a full-fledged multi brand designer boutique, featuring international designers from across the globe. While the Soirée boutique maintains its presence as the leading destination for Asian ethnic wear featuring some of the biggest names in fashion, the new look space has a new focus on western wear designers, as well as some of the most coveted fashion designers on the international scene. With the launch of the new urban contemporary space, Soirée boutique aims to bring its clientele an exciting choice, hence creating a one-stop shop for all things fashion. The evolution began last year with the launch of the Essa space on the ground floor, and continues now with the Urban Contemporary area upstairs which will additionally showcase new and established talents from the region and beyond.
