Zayed Sports City will host a charity bowling tournament on April 27th, 2013, that aims to make the dreams of ill children come true.
Hundreds of people are expected to converge on the community sports hub to take part in the ZSC Sport Relays event that will bring together friends, family and sports fanatics from all over the UAE.
Under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Sheikha bint Saif Al Nahyan, the ZSC Sport Relays aims to raise money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation, a charity that grants children with life-threatening illnesses the chance to live their dream.
The ZSC Sport Relays is a 12 hour event that focuses on bowling, one of the country's most popular sports, for a good cause.
The aim of the organisers is to raise AED200,000 and teams of between 4 and 7 can register now at a cost of 200AED for adults and AED100 for children. This entitles the team to two hours of bowling. Each AED100 extra raised adds an additional hour and if a team raises AED1000, the lane stays open for 12 hours.
For the non-bowlers there is also an opportunity to register a football team. Contact for more information and to register your team.
Teams can pass the metaphorical baton from teammate to teammate when they get tired and with hours of continuous bowling for each team, participants will need to muster will power and stamina as well money for a good cause.
Barry Bremner, General Manager at Zayed Sports City said: “The Make-A-Wish Foundation is a fantastic cause that deserves the support of everyone within Abu Dhabi.
“As a sports facility that sits at the heart of community, we feel strongly about giving back to those in need.
“We hope that by bringing people together for a sporting marathon  we will help raise awareness and vital funds for a very deserving charity.
“This event is all about taking part and doing your bit for a worthy cause, rather than about competition. We would urge the whole community to come out and support it.”
Hani Al-Zubaidi, CEO of the Make-A-Wish Foundation UAE echoed the sentiment.
“The event is a unique way to raise money to support us in granting special wishes for children living with a life threatening condition while they endure difficult times,” he said.
“We are delighted to partner with Zayed Sports City and become the charity benefactor for the relays and anticipate the event will be a tremendous success."
All sponsorship proceeds will be donated directly to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Mumkin bubble bar … an adorable bubble bar designed just for mum on Mother’s Day.  Scented with a delicious, fruity, raspberry fragrance, crumble him under running water for soft pink water and masses of skin softening raspberry scented bubbles.  Vegan
Secret Garden bath bomb … a bath with this lovely floral ballistic will make mum feel like she’s in her own secret garden.  Bursting with petals that will float on the bath water and scented with roses, sweet wild orange and rosewood oils.  Plus, this one has got a frothy outer layer so you’ll get bubbles and fizz with every one. Vegan
Mum’s … a selection of Lush’s innovative re-usable bubble bar wands especially for mum – all are on sticks, so easy to swish around the bathtub creating masses of skin softening, beautifully scented bubbles.  Then place on the side and allow it to dry, ready to use again and again and again (you can get up to six baths out of each one).  Tell your mum to put her feet up while you run her a nice warm bath, swish her chosen bubble bar around in the water, then tell her to enjoy a nice long soak while you do the washing up!
There are three to choose from, one for every type of mum … but to be on the safe side you should probably get all three:
Mum … short for chrysantheMUM, this one is a yellow flower with the uplifting scent of orange, lime and juniper berries … the fragrance is reminiscent of a freshly mown lawn.
Mum Tulip … as well as being a beautiful flower, tulips are also an emblem for International Women’s Day in Russia so the perfect choice really.   This one is scented with a delicious chocolate orange fragrance, with light grapefruit and bergamot oils to help lift the spirit, while the cocoa and tonka bring warmth and comfort to the heart.
Madame Butterfly … a pretty pink butterfly fragranced with gorgeous rose absolute and rose oil, which are also both fantastic on the skin.  There’s a hint of lemon and Egyptian geranium oil to help balance the skin, whilst the cocoa and shea butters will leave mum feeling smooth and soft.  Vegan
The Washing Up Fairy re-usable bubble bar wand … back again this year, this solid fairy wand is unpackaged and unpreserved and will soften hands as well as clean the dishes.  Be the washing up fairy for mum this Mother’s Day and simply fill the sink with water, swirl this lemon scented washing up wand around and she’ll create lots of bubbles.   Then leave her on the side to dry and re-use again and again (she’ll last for around eight washes).
A Mother’s Day in Paradise … a bright and cheerful hatbox full of springtime treats for mum to luxuriously pamper herself with.  There are three of the limited edition Mother’s Day products, along with Lush favourites such as Dream Cream body moisturiser to really spoil her.  She really will feel like she’s in paradise with this box of treats!

Lovely … a little something for all those lovely mums out there to say thank you for looking after us, with a duo of indulgent, fragrant bath goodies.

Why not treat mum to some Emotional Brilliance) this Mother’s Day, you could give her some Happiness (a sunset copper liquid eyeshadow), some Fantasy (gold eyeliner), or a bit of Perspective (natural, dusky rose liquid lip colour).  Pop them all into a special Emotional Brilliance gift box and make mum feel brilliant!
She might also like some Feeling Younger highlighter, as it contains ‘magic orange’ pigment which works as a reflector on the skin, making it look bright and youthful.  Ideal for multiple purposes including: cheekbones for a subtle shimmer; under the eye to minimise the appearance of dark circles; or as a highlighter on the brow bone.

ICLDC Hosts Interactive Courses For Junior Doctors

HAAD-accredited MRCP study in Abu Dhabi

May 9-11 2013

The Arabian Gulf’s young doctors can now study in Abu Dhabi for the sought-after Membership of the Royal Colleges of Physicians (MRCP).

MRCP Part 1 and Part 2 will take place from May 9-11 at the Imperial College London Diabetes Centre (ICLDC), the state-of-the art diabetes treatment centre in Abu Dhabi.

Professor Karim Meeran a
specialist consultant with ICLDC
Recent MRCP courses held at the UAE capital’s ICLDC, in partnership with UK’s Hammersmith Medicine, have won positive delegate feedback for high quality content and instruction. ICLDC has a purpose-designed lecture theatre, interaction areas and offers easy access to a number of hotels and airport.

According to the course leader, Imperial College London’s Professor Karim Meeran the vigorous programmes provide outstanding preparation and are an ideal stepping stone for the MRCP examination.

“Passing the MRCP is a tough proposition for young doctors yet it’s compulsory if they have aspirations to become a specialist. These courses are designed to ease the pressure and ensure candidates have the best possible chance.

“We have considered the sort of questions that will come up and we coach doctors in a way that will make them better prepared to pass with flying colours.”

Professor Meeran added that due to the region’s growing demand for doctors, it makes sense to hold the courses in the UAE. Recent courses have had an international flavour with participants from Canada and the UK, as well as from the region with the likes of Oman, Qatar and Kuwait represented.

Due to growing demand, the training course has been expanded and is set to be held at ICLDC three times this year.

“Both the MRCP 1 and 2 programme are continuously reviewed by the Health Authority Abu Dhabi and accredited for 21.5 and 22 CME hours respectively,” added Professor Meeran.

Registration can be made online at or at or Tel: + 971 2 404 0870

This project is an exclusive showcase for the United Arab Emirates and the YAHSAT Satellite Tracking Ground Station, which has been built by Astrium for YAHSAT’s satellites Y1A and Y1B and functions on the KA frequency. The project is unique globally in its network management system because it is controlled completely by IT and networking systems, and the use of commercially available equipment instead of proprietary solutions. TEXPO has been an integral part of the installation including complete cable networking installations, sub-communications systems testing, and electrical installations and compliance procedures with International Quality Standards.
At this Gala Dinner, which was held at The Royal Ballroom - The Palace at the One & Only Royal Mirage, TEXPO’s CEO Dr. Sarfaraz Alam hosted partners from Astrium, EADS and YAHSAT to celebrate the success of this major project. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Alam said, “We are proud to be such an integral part of a seminal moment in the United Arab Emirates’ telecom revolution.  Right from its Network Management System, inventive sourcing process and sustainable equipment, the YAHSAT Satellite program has been a unique experience for our highly experienced team.”
Dr. Alam continued, “For TEXPO, this remains our flagship project because this project not only demonstrates the technological leadership of the country, but also stands testimony to the fact that strong collaboration can deliver great results”.
Director of United Kingdom Trade and Investment, British Embassy, Abu Dhabi, Mrs. Frances Moffett-Kouadio addressed the occasion and said, “If you want to do business in Abu Dhabi, you have to look at partnership, and I congratulate TEXPO, Astrium and all the partners, because you understood that many years ago. You have come and delivered a phenomenally impressive project”.
Mr. Aidan Joy, MD Secure Satellite Communications Systems for Astrium Limited, addressed the event saying “TEXPO began working with us in 2010, starting with the installation process and now are very much an integral part of the team doing the commissioning and integration activities, that have been both implemented in the UAE and overseas.” He continued by thanking TEXPO for organising the event, and said “The key to the success of this significant project, has been the strong partnership shared with YAHSAT, key suppliers and supporters, including TEXPO.”
Also speaking at the occasion was Mr. Nagib Chahine, Director - Service Development & Delivery, YAHSAT said “This project showed how a good partner is needed to achieve success. TEXPO not only helped us through Astrium, but they also played significant role in installation.”
This black-tie event was well attended by representatives and delegations from the UK and French embassies, dignitaries from Astrium EADS, UAE Army, executives from YAHSAT, Thales Alenia Space (TAS). The guests enjoyed exclusive performances of the internationally acclaimed British stand-up comedian John Moloney and DC Jazz Band.
