Soloists, duos and groups will battle it out on the Al Rigga Road stage as part of urban event calendar run by Al Ghurair Centre
The streets at the centre of one of Dubai’s busiest districts
will soon be alive with the sound of music when the Al Ghurair Centre launches
its first ever outdoor Battle of the Bands competition.
The
three-week event, which kicks off on Thursday 14 November on an outdoor stage
on Al Rigga Road, is part of Al Ghurair Centre’s action-packed series of events
organized to mark the launch of the new expansion.
Budding
musicians can register to compete and get a chance of winning a share of 30,000
AED in Al Ghurair Centre shopping vouchers, plus 15,000 AED in vouchers for Al
Ghurair Centre’s new family entertainment centre Sparky’s.
Register
in person at Al Ghurair Centre between 5-9pm on 7-9th November and 14th-16th
November. Registrations will be at the outdoor stage on Al Rigga Street,
located in the open car park opposite mall entrance 2.
Alternatively,
you can visit the Al Ghurair Centre website to register, starting at 5pm on
Thursday 7th November.
David
Thurling, VP of the Al Ghurair Centre, said: “Al Ghurair Centre is the soul of
the city and the Battle of the Bands is something that will really bring the
community together”.
“We’re
really looking forward to the event to see some new talent up on the stage, and
also looking forward to giving the community and our customers a fantastic day
out”.
“Unlike
most malls in Dubai, people can walk into Al Ghurair Centre from the street and
events like Battle of the Bands allow us to engage this active, bustling
community that surrounds us.”
The
event is part of a packed event programme over the coming months that will see
international street-theatre acts, art installations, graffiti artists,
break-dancers, roaming performers and acrobats becoming a regular sight in and
around Al Ghurair Centre.
The
first round of the Battle of the Bands takes place on November 14-16 from 6-9pm
each evening, when solo artists and and duos will perform a one-song-set to a
live audience and esteemed panel of judges.
From
November 21-23, larger groups will take to the stage in a clash of covers and
original material.
The
judges will select four quarter finalists from both weekends, having heard
their two-minute renditions and gauging the audience’s reaction at the free
event.
The
four judges include award-winning Broadway veteran Mina, Dan Bolton, Head of
Entertainment at Bareface talent and model agency, music-guru Yafei and DJ Iain
Akerman otherwise known as themightyrouge.
The
quarter finals on November 28 will see singers perform two different songs of
their choosing and then again at the nerve-racking semi-finals on November 29.
The
event will culminate in a grand final on Saturday November 30 where a winner
and two runners up will be crowned “best of the bands”.
