Competition
was fierce and the quality of the highest quality as contestants vied for the top positions in
the Horr Jernas category at the Fazza Championship for Falconry organised by
the Hamdan Bin Mohammed Heritage Center. The Championship continued in Ruwayya
amidst relatively good weather conditions and is now in its final stages before it concludes with the finals on 13
January. A total of 75 participants competed in this category.
“The Championship is getting more
comprehensive every year as it allows different categories of falcons and their
owners to participate. We have seen some new pure and rare breeds this year. We
are now counting down to the finals in anticipation,” said Dumaithan Bin
Swaidian, Head of Fazza Championship for Falconry Committee.
This year, the competition has
already seen increased participation
from local residents and foreign nationals and there are hopes that the
Championship could evolve into an international tournament in the future.
The latest competition witnessed the
‘Al Horr’, one of the rarest and the most expensive falcons taking flight. Abdulla
Rabea Al Gemzi, who participated in the Al Horr category owns 50 falcons and is
confident of success as the finals draw
closer. He said: “By God’s grace I have qualified with five falcons in other
categories. I have owned falcons since I was eight years old, it is part of our
heritage.
“The Championship this year has
exceeded all expectations and the registration has moved online which makes it much
easier for the contestants.”
