The
organizing committee responsible for The Peace and Sport Dubai Forum 2013 was
handed the certificate for the largest buttons mosaic in the world. The Mosaic
depicts a peace dove in the colours of the United Arab Emirates using plastic
buttons. The feat was executed with the
support of Emaar, which had provided a distinct location at "Burj
Plaza" across the "Burj Khalifa", and was spearheaded by Fareed
Lafta one of Peace & Sports global ambassadors for peace with the help and
participation of hundreds of volunteers
from different nationalities who laid the buttons over 10 days.
Talal Omar,
the Guinness Book of World Records country manager announced the new record
facts of one million and 19 thousand and 73 buttons spread over an area of more
than 361 square meters.

The
organizing committee for The Peace and Sport Dubai Forum 2013 received the
certificate with the attendance of Dr. Ahmad AlSharif, Secretary General of the
Dubai Sport Council, Ahmad Al Matrooshi, Managing Director of Emaar, as well as
many public, community and sporting personalities and representatives
that were keen to attend this milestone event as one of the many community
events that are planned in preparation to the Peace and Sport Forum - Dubai
2013 which will be on the 23rd and 24th of April, the first time such a Forum
will be held in the Middle East.
Dr. Ahmad
AlSharif, head of the Peace and Sport Forum organising committee said;
"This event is truly global in all
its aspects; it is a message of peace and love from Dubai to the world, a world
record, and its relevance comes within the framework of efforts to highlight
the Peace and Sport Forum that will be held for the first time in Middle East
and hosted by Dubai."
And he adds
"We are confident that this world record recognition will keep the Peace
and Sport Forum in the books for years to come.
We are thankful to all those who participated in each of the one million
and 19 thousand buttons that make up this mosaic, especially employees of
Rashid Centre for Special Needs and school students, and the numerous youth
from various countries around the world living in Dubai and consider the UAE
their home, and ensure that they express their love for the UAE in different
manners.”
The Mosaic
symbolises peace, love and harmony, factors that represent the role played by
Dubai and the United Arab Emirates in the world and embody its oasis of peace
and security and the convergence of the people who call the UAE their home
where residents from more than 200 nationalities living in harmony as one
community.
