International Women’s Day: first-ever Palestine female football captain Honey Thaljieh joins Peace and Sport as new Champion for Peace



An inspiring role-model, Honey Thaljieh will help spread the Peace through
Sport movement in the Middle-East and beyond


On the International Women’s Day, Peace and Sport President Joël Bouzou unveiled Honey Thaljieh as the latest Champion for Peace”. The announcement comes at the time when Peace and Sport gains strong momentum throughout the Middle- East region, in the lead up to the first-ever Peace and Sport Dubai Forum.

A well-known and inspiring sportswoman, having been the first-ever female football captain in Palestine, Honey Thaljieh is also an active member of the Peace through Sport family. A true herald of the role sport  can play in the pursuit of peace, Honey Thaljieh ignited the audience  of  the  latest  Peace  and  Sport  International  Forum  in  Sochi,  with  a  moving testimony of the obstacles she had to overcome in her  career. Being Palestinian, Arab, woman,  born  in  Bethlehem  and  a  female  football  player,  Honey  Thaljieh  has  a  deep understanding of the challenges in Middle-East and how sport can help achieving progress. She will from now share her unique vision with Peace and Sport, helping the organization fully understand the regional stakes and support field projects in the future.
