Second Dubai World Cup Carnival Meeting of 2014 Takes Place Thursday January 16

Spectators at Meydan’s second Dubai World Cup Carnival meeting of the season will gain valuable clues as to the horses that will feature prominently in the UAE Guineas Classics as they line up for important trial races this week.
Dubai Duty Free is the sponsor of the six-race meeting, which carries a combined prize purse of US$640,000 and also features the new Listed Dubawi Stakes held over 1200m of the all-weather.
The Guineas Trials, which both take place over 1400m and are also run on the all-weather, represent the dress rehearsal for the UAE 1000 Guineas and 2000 Guineas held on February 6 and 13 respectively.
Dubai Duty Free is also a major presence at the Dubai World Cup and will return to Meydan for the world’s richest day of racing when the Group 1 $5m turf race, the Dubai Duty Free, sponsored by Dubai Duty Free is staged over 1800m.
Commenting on its partnership with Dubai Racing Club, Dubai Duty Free’s Executive Vice Chairman, Colm McLoughlin, said: “Horseracing plays an important part in Dubai Duty Free’s sponsorship portfolio and as one of the founding sponsors of Dubai World Cup, we are proud to be part of the Dubai World Cup Carnival.
“This international event taking place on January 16 proves to be a highly successful platform for the global promotion of Dubai and its world-class sporting, leisure and business facilities.
“We are proud to be sponsoring six races on the day and we are also looking forward to some great racing on March 29, 2014 for the Dubai World Cup day where the operation is sponsoring the $5 million Group 1 Dubai Duty Free.”
Meydan Board Member and Chairman of the Meydan Racing Committee, Malih al Basti said: “Dubai Duty Free has been a passionate long-term supporter of racing in the UAE and the wider world for many years and it is with great pleasure that we welcome the company back to Meydan.
“Dubai Duty Free shows unfailing commitment to the continued development of the sport and was one of the very first brands to realise the potential and scope of the Dubai World Cup and the Dubai World Cup Carnival.”
