The Fazza
Championship for Falconry has hosted the second and final day of the Junior
Falconers Championship on Friday 11th January at the Championship
grounds in Ruwayyah. One of the
highlights of the day was the achievement of the youngest competitor – Ahmed
Rashid bin Siroud – coming in second place at just four years old.
Meanwhile
fellow family member Hamad Saeed bin
Siroud won both first and third prize with his expert flying of his falcons
following two days of highly competitive and enthusiastic action proving that
that a deep love for traditional Emirati pursuits beats in the heart of young
nationals.
A
number of students from Zayed University also attended the Junior Championships
to translate the atmosphere and traditional competitive nature of the event in
photography, field studies as part of creating a special documentary archive on
Emirati heritage.
Souad Darwish, Director of the Fazza
Championships said: “We have been delighted to host this junior category for
the second year with a larger number of entries than last year and we would
like to congratulate all of the winners and the significant improvement in
quality for the competition.
“It is clear that the young falconers
have dedicated a lot of time to training their falcons this year creating
stronger competition. We also decided to host the championship during the
weekend and school midterm holidays ensuring participants had a longer time to
prepare and train their falcons. The range in age has also been wonderful to
witness with one winner as young as 4 years old and the youngest in the
tournament – and we must also thank the parents of these talented young men for
all of their dedication and support.
Dumaithan bin Swaidan, head of the Organising
Committee for the Fazza Championships for Falconry added: “Congratulations to
all the young people who took part and we have strived to make the championship
a success especially for the juniors, to build the right infrastructure and
look forward to even higher numbers of participants in the future.”
Winning junior Hamad Saeed bin Siroud
said: “I am very happy to win first and third place in today’s category and I
also won second place yesterday. I have so many cousins and relatives competing
which makes it more exciting and competitive.
I will keep some of the prizes for myself and give the rest to my dad,
as he has taught me this sport since I was very little”.
