Fazza Championship for Falconry Finals sees spectacular action and competition

The finals of the Fazza Championship for Falconry organised by the Hamdan Bin Mohammed Heritage Centre saw some spectacular action and a great day of falconry. Competitors worked hard to make it into the top ten in this final round.
With 11 categories (for Sheikhs) being held over the day, the top three winners in the finals of each category had the opportunity to win luxury cars, while the runners up (between fourth and tenth place) received cash prizes.

Dumaithan bin Swaidian, Head of the Fazza Championship for Falconry Committee, said: “This year the Fazza Championship for Falconry has seen the highest level of competition and the highest number of competitors to date from the UAE and across the GCC region. Every competitor has been a star in his own right and demonstrated their passion for the Emirate’s heritage and this traditional sport of falconry.
The noble sport of falconry has been upheld to the highest degree by everyone who took part in the competition and helped to manage and organise such a successful event.”
The winners of the first day of finals were delighted with their success in such a challenging environment.
Suad Darwish, Director of the Fazza Championships said: “While the weather was extremely overcast and the wind was strong today, we experienced some really great competition from the falcons and were able to run 11 different categories. This year, we have expanded the competition to include 25 categories for the falcons at the request of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai. This is twenty more categories than in the past and it has made the competition a lot more interesting for the falconers and supporters.”
The winners of the first day of finals were delighted with their success in such a challenging environment.
Rashid Ahmed Bin Megren, the 1st place winner of the Garmousha Farkh category (older falcons) and part of the NAS R Falconry Group said: “Since the competition started, I have been taking part and put a lot of work into getting my falcons up to scratch when it comes to this championship.”
“I have a lot of family and friends who are both supportive of my falconry and are competing in the championship. There are a lot of great falconers taking part but that makes it all the more satisfying knowing that I have done so well.”
Fellow falconer Mohammed Khalifa added: “I have been competing with four falcons today and this is the 8th time I have competed in this championship. Since I was a little boy my father and grandfather taught me the basics of falconry. I learnt how to care for them, how to feed them, and hunt with them. This championship is unique for me as it is in the name of our Sheikh.
This is the only time in the year that there is a real gathering of all those who love falconry, so this is a special championship for me. It is even better when the competitors are really good and want to win as much as me.”

The annual Fazza Championships for Falconry are being held in the Ruwayyah area of Dubai and have attracted hundreds of falconers from the Emirates and across the region to compete in a wide range of different categories and are already set to become the most successful championships to date.
