Inspired by a local photographer's old box camera in a Kabul market, Slezic began capturing this extraordinary series of photographs portraying Afghan women and girls – a subject she had focused on one year prior in her book project, Forsaken in 2007.

NFL ACTION AND EMIRATES AMERICAN FOOTBALL LEAGUE STARS COME TO QUBE SPORTS BAR


Live American Football action every Sunday with the UAE’s best players in attendance
American Football fans from across the UAE are gathering at Qube Sports Bar on Sundays to watch the superstars of the NFL in action.

Everyone is welcome with players from the Emirates American Football League (EAFL) on-hand to give opinions on the game and advice to those wanting to take up the sport.


Qube, located at Meydan in Dubai, has a reputation for showing a huge variety of sports and last Sunday the venue was full for the NFL season opener.

This Sunday, starting at 9pm, Philadelphia Eagles will take on Baltimore Ravens in what promises to be a bruising encounter.

Other NFL fixtures will be shown throughout the night on the venue’s range of screens with the main game each and every Sunday being broadcast live on Qube’s giant HD screen. 

Every Sunday Qube is offering deals on classic US food and beverages to help create an all-American atmosphere.

“Qube was buzzing last week and it was a great way for NFL fans in Dubai to start the season,” said Karyn Macdonald, EAFL co-ordinator.

All three designers mingled with the guests, two of which flew from Lebanon specially for this evening. The fashion and accessories collections showcased in an atmosphere filled with remixes of timeless songs from Lebanese music giants similar to what you would hear in an authentic Lebanese café.
”ValleyDez is known for the eclectic mix of brands and we wanted to highlight our Lebanese designers through a truly Lebanese experience” Says Noor Badaro, Buyer and Creative Executive. ” We chose to celebrate Lebanese design because there is currently so much stunning creativity coming from Lebanon and we wanted to share it with our customers and fans.“

Meet the designers
Nadine Zeni
Born and based in Beirut, Nadine Zeni was a lawyer before she quit her day job to follow her passion for fashion. First doing private sales for niche French brands in Beirut her clientele kept growing and asking for more . She was then approached by fashion magazines to be a stylist for their editorials and became later a very sought after stylist and style consultant  to many celebrities in the middle east.
After many years of experience in the fashion world, self-taught Nadine Zeni founded her eponymous label in 2010. It was  an instant success among the fashion savvy .
She has gained a solid fashion following for her feminine yet edgy cocktail dresses, jumpsuits, jackets and mix and max separates, made of luxurious  yet wearable fabrics.
The Nadine Zeni woman is powerful and confident and likes to combine old-school glamour with a modern twist. Her structured yet feminine silhouettes create an effortlessly chic aesthetic with a contemporary edge.



Celeste
Designer: Celine Atwi
Born in Beirut in 1985 to a Lebanese dad and an Italian/French mother, she has always been smitten with design-related fields, especially graphic and fashion. Graduated from LAU with a B.S in graphic design, she often experienced with fashion on the side. In May 2011, she started with her own graphic prints on t-shirts then decided to take the plunge with dresses, pants, overalls and vintage jewelry. Her style flair and inventiveness are key and her inspirations are as wide as can be. Designed and made in Beirut, the collections are unique, sultry & fun, a mix of vintage & trends. Graphic t-shirts, party dresses, pants, overalls. Most of them are statement pieces, mainly because of the edgy prints or the innovative cuts. Vintage accessories complement the collections, they're either handmade or authentic and made in very limited numbers.
A Celeste woman knows how to have fun without taking life too seriously & laughs at what life throws at her.

Designer: Cynthia Pennikian
CEECODE handbags are created by the young designer Cynthia Pennikian who is based in Dubai. Born in 1987, Cynthia's energy and ideas rapidly fuelled the first line of CEECODE Handbags in February 2011. The CEECODE collection reflects her dedication to the world of handbags and ever growing fashion sense.

Top UK public health body launches international food safety qualification in Dubai



Top UK public health body launches international food safety qualification for Person in Charge (PIC) candidates in its Middle East HQ in Healthcare City.

The Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH), one of the world’s leading public health training organisations, today announced that it was expanding its portfolio of food training courses with the launch of the Level 3 Award in Food Safety qualification. Designed specifically to complement the Level 3 Person in Charge (PIC) qualification, the CIEH is the first awarding organisation to provide this additional training for people working in food businesses.

Most significantly it will give candidates a truly international qualification recognised and valued by businesses across the globe. As a CIEH qualification it will acknowledge a candidate’s high standard of food safety knowledge and competence. Since January 2011 it has been a requirement for all food businesses in Dubai to have at least one certified Person in Charge (PIC) trained in food safety in a food premises. 

Commenting on the launch, Graham Jukes, CIEH Chief Executive, said:

“We have had a presence in Dubai for a number of years and have seen our business expand considerably in that period. In September 2011 we celebrated the opening of our Dubai Healthcare City office.

“Following the success of our PIC qualifications we identified a need to produce an additional internationally recognised food safety qualification which would allow Level 3 PIC candidates to work in food businesses both in and outside of Dubai.”

Continuing, Mr Jukes, said:

“We have been encouraged by the extremely positive response we have had to our PIC training products and the speed at which we have gained significant market share – there is clearly a gap in the market for the type of quality product the CIEH provides.

“With a growing tourism industry and a reputation for having world class cuisine and restaurants, ensuring food safety is now a top priority for Dubai and the CIEH is delighted to be helping the municipality achieve this.

An ambitious organisation the CIEH has successfully extended its public health message worldwide, accrediting courses and trainers operating in Asia, the USA and Australia.
In the USA, the CIEH has secured ten percent of the food safety training market.
Last year, the CIEH opened a headquarter office for the Middle East and North Africa region in Dubai.

Marks & Spencer Al Futtaim plans to unveil the “Rosie for Autograph” autumn collection designed by Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, the English actress & model by September 13, 2012 in UAE and September 18, 2012 in Kuwait and Qatar. The impending autumn weather is the perfect excuse for buying some of this beautiful lingerie which will be available at selective M&S stores in UAE, Kuwait & Qatar.


The “Rosie for Autograph” autumn Collection comprises of stunning pieces which include luxurious silk lingerie sets, cami and French knicker sets, a teddy and a kimono style robe. Rosie Huntington-Whiteley says, “To find inspiration for the collection, I trawled my favourite vintage shops and flea markets in London, LA and Paris where  I found a treasure trove of gorgeous clothes and ornate pieces of jewellery, as well as pictures and patterns found in old design books and fashion magazines.”
“I was particularly drawn to the opulent elegance of the 20s era which really shows in my designs from the sumptuous silks I chose to the intricate deco inspired embroidery detailing on the garments.”
“The palette was not only inspired by my favourite 20s pieces, but also it was largely influenced by the rich colours of different types of roses. From the muted tones of dusky pink and green through to dramatic scarlet blooms, I wanted the palette to evoke the beauty of a gorgeous British garden in Summer.”
“I also drew on my experiences as a model to create lingerie pieces that work on the body and are as comfortable to wear as they are beautiful. My goal was to create a luxurious collection which could flatter women of all ages and sizes, inspiring confidence and making women feel gorgeous in their lingerie. I made sure each design incorporated different shapes of bra and knicker together with camis and kimonos to complement the figure.” 

“The logo for my collection was designed around the rose motif. Incorporating the image of the rose and conveying the feminine luxury of my collection was really important to me. Each piece will be recognisable by a tab engraved with my Rosie for Autograph logo.”

Through this new body of large–scale works Omidi captivates and hypnotizes the viewer with his rhythmical repetition of letters. Omidi layers oils to create a dancing scene of characters and colours.
Omidi’s fascination with calligraphy began during his studies, when he first learnt the ancient script. However it was not until 2007 that he incorporated the technique into his artistic practice.
Omidi’s artistic career has seen him take part in exhibitions around the world, including Japan, Venice, Paris, Dubai and his native Tehran.

Mall of the Emirates brings back a ‘World of Fashion’

For the second year in a row, Mall of the Emirates will take the spotlight by hosting the hottest fashion, beauty and arts event of the year: World of Fashion. From October 3rd – 16th, Mall of the Emirates will transform into a live catwalk featuring non-stop runway shows, beauty demonstrations and exhibitions for shoppers, visitors and anyone with a passion for fashion to revel in. Recognised as a platform that will position Dubai amongst the ranks of the world’s leading fashion destinations, World of Fashion is set to be bigger, better and infused with more glamour than ever before.

World of Fashion will lay out the red carpet with an ‘Evening of Glamour’ on October 3rd, unveiling their new haute couture collections from Etoile.
