TENNIS WITHOUT BOUNDARIES: FIRST LADIES TOURNAMENT AT ZAYED SPORT CITY WILL RAISE MONEY FOR CHARITY

Ladies' tennis group, ACE IT, will hold the UAE's first Ladies Tennis Tournament at the International Tennis Complex at Zayed Sports City in Abu Dhabi, on the 9th February, 2013.

Along with other female Emirati players, ACE IT will be competing to promote women's tennis in the UAE and to support the Dubai Foundation for Women and Children. Proceeds raised from the tournament will be donated to the local charity.

The tournament has been organised by ACE IT's founding members, Lady Elizabeth Riesenburg, Ayesha Al Fahim and Shaikha Al Zaabi, in order to give Emirati ladies an opportunity to play centre stage in a friendly, secure environment.

The tournament will host a total of seven doubles matches throughout the day, with 16 participants.

"With the lack of tennis courts for ladies in Abu Dhabi, a friendly tournament like this can give the players a chance to meet, compete and have some fun. One day, I hope to see professional Emirati players competing in grand slams," said Ayesha.

Lady Elizabeth, Ayesha and Shaikha are dedicated to raising awareness for ladies tennis in the UAE and encouraging women to join the sport.

"An event like this aims to raise awareness of the importance of an active life, especially for women, in a fun and friendly context. Tennis is one of the world's most popular sports whether it is played professionally or recreationally and we would love to see it promoted more in this region," said Shaikha.

The ladies regularly compete in the local tennis league and share the same strong passion and love for the sport. They hope that this inaugural event will encourage similar events for ladies across the Emirates.

“Our aim is to bring ladies together and increase local community participation. We hope that our tournament will serve as a stepping stone to many more tennis projects in the UAE. We are also pleased to hold the event in support of a very worthy charitable cause, the Dubai Foundation for Women and Children," added Lady Elizabeth.

Lady Elizabeth, Ayesha and Shaikha together expressed: "It is our honor and privilege to have Her Highness Sheikha Shaikha Bin Mohammed Bin Khaled Al Nahyan participate in this Tournament with us, Her Highness is an inspiration to us, always supporting ladies tennis".
