WILSON, PSS-EMIRATES AND ZAYED SPORTS CITY TO HOST UAE'S BIGGEST AMATEUR TENNIS TOURNAMENT

Over 300 tennis players, from seven-year-olds to adults, are expected to take part in the UAE's biggest amateur tennis championship from February 1 to February 15, 2013.

Held at the impressive International Tennis Centre at Zayed Sports City, the Abu Dhabi Wilson Tennis Cup is the first mass participation amateur tennis event in the region with over twenty-five singles and doubles sections for players to enter. Great prizes will be awarded for the winners of each category, with a total prize fund of 47,000AED up for grabs.
Competition for the inaugural title is expected to be fierce. Some of the region's best players have already registered, including local star Peter Wessels. Once ranked number 72 in the world, Wessels is the hot favourite to take the title after winning the Sheikh Zayed Cup for the past two years.
As well as top adult amateurs, the two week event will showcase some of the best young talent from the country's academies, with top-seeded Emirati, Hamad Janahi topping the bill.
And it could be a double celebration for Wessels, who now coaches the best young local talent at the PSS Academy at the International Tennis Centre and whose student, 13-year-old Emelie Schwarte, is one of the favourites in the under 14 girls category.
Those wanting to test their mettle against the best players in the region can still register. Registration is open until 25th January, 2013 and those wanting to take part are urged to sign up as soon as possible.
Away from the action on the court, family activities will be provided to keep the little ones entertained.
Matches take place on weekdays from 5pm and from 9am on weekends and family and friends wanting to come down and show their support can do so for free for the duration of the Championship.
This inaugural Championship is organised by Zayed Sport City and PSS-Emirates, the leader in tennis coaching in the UAE and is sponsored by Wilson, the sporting goods brand associated with some of the biggest tennis tournaments and stars in the world. The event is supported by the Abu Dhabi Sports Council and Tennis Emirates.
"We are very excited to present the inaugural Abu Dhabi Wilson Tennis Cup," said Barry Bremner, General Manager, Zayed Sports City. "As a leader in the tennis industry and the largest tennis facility in the UAE it makes sense that we would develop and host this first of its kind event, which is expected to welcome both elite and social players from the region.
"This is one of the many tennis events coming up in the International Tennis Centre and will be followed by the Tennis Open later this year in the build up to the Mubadala World Tennis Championship which will take place during the last week of December."
Wilson brand manager, Syed Khaja, said: “We have a long-standing relationship with Zayed Sports City and are pleased to be strengthening that partnership with the new Abu Dhabi Wilson Tennis Cup.
"Events like these help to drive the local participation efforts and help to inspire the next generation of tennis stars and we are delighted to be involved in that at a grass roots level.
"Being involved in community events like these is important to the heritage of the sport in the region and for the development of our brand and fits with Wilson global policy of bringing the energy of the game to all generations of tennis fans."
Registration forms are available at the International Tennis Centre at Zayed Sports City.
