Hundreds
flocked to the Singapore Pavilion on the first day of Gulfood to sample
signature national dishes at its à la carte café. Launched for the first time
this year, the pop-up dining experience is open throughout the five days of the
show, serving visitors an authentic taste of the traditional flavours from the
culinary capital of Asia.
Singapore
chefs Lawrence Toon and Samson Lin from the country’s premium hospitality
school, Singapore Hotel and Tourism Education Centre (SHATEC), cooked up a
mouth-watering selection of iconic dishes including laksa, chicken rice and
chilli crab. Prepared with products from the 48 exhibiting Singapore food
companies, the chefs showed just how easy it is to recreate these meals at
home. The cooking demonstrations take place each day at 12:30pm, 1:30pm and
3:30pm.
“Singapore’s
culinary landscape is renowned for its delicious street food, innovative
restaurant concepts and exquisite fine dining experiences. The pop-up café,
launched for the first time at Gulfood this year, provides visitors with a
taste of our authentic Asian flavours and showcases the iconic dishes that
Singapore has to offer,” said Lester Lu, Regional Director for International
Enterprise (IE) Singapore in Dubai, the government agency driving Singapore’s external
economy by promoting the overseas growth of Singaporean companies and
international trade.
In
addition to the food demonstrations and regular restaurant service available at
the café, special networking sessions will also be held on the 24 and 25 February
from 4:00pm to 6:00pm, allowing interested suppliers and producers to learn
more about the Singapore F&B industry, its products, services, technologies
and trends.
The
Singapore Pavilion and Singapore Café are located in Sheikh Rashid Hall of the
Dubai World Trade Centre.
