The Middle East’s largest street theatre event Al Ghurair Centre’s Dub Fest – International Street Theatre and Comedy Fair

Al Ghurair Centre secures three-year sponsorship of the Middle East’s largest street theatre event. (Previously known as Dubai Street Festival)
The biggest international street theatre and comedy fair in the Middle East is back with a brand new name and location.
Previously known as the Dubai Street Festival, the event ran for three consecutive years at Dubai Marina Mall. Now, back with a re-vamp thanks to its new host the Al Ghurair Centre, the event takes place from 20th March 2014 in Deira.
The Al Ghurair Centre’s Dub Fest International Street Theatre and Comedy Fair is a free 10 day event showcasing the talents of 30 international acts from over 12 different countries who will perform in over 300 shows to several thousand visitors.
From 20th to 29th March, ex-Cirque Du Soleil gymnasts, Guinness world record holders, international break dancers, live musicians, flamethrowers, tight-rope walkers and 3D chalk artists will perform on the inner streets of Al Ghurair Centre in Deira.
The Al Ghurair Centre secured the rights to host the event for the next three years after holding a series of urban streetscape events focusing on music and art since its expansion in October 2013.
VP of the Al Ghurair Centre David Thurling says; “our venue and ethos for promoting urban entertainment in the region made us the natural choice for an event of this scale and recognition. We are incredibly proud and honoured to be hosting the Al Ghurair Centre’s Dub Fest and have made a lot of additions to the usual programme of events”.
Capitalising on its previous success and the Al Ghurair Centre’s experience of hosting large scale events, such as the Battle of the Bands and Street Con urban art fest, the city’s original mall will inject a new lease of life into Dubai’s largest international street theatre show with acts such as;
USA Break dancers from New York, USA
Created by a Cirque Du Soleil performer, Julio Santiago, the USA Break dancers are a multi-award winning, action-packed dance act.
Reuben Dot Dot Dot from Melbourne, Australia
A gymnast and circus performer who has also appeared in Cirque du Soleil, he defies gravity and death with acrobatic stunts and balances that you need to see to believe.
The Rubberband Boy from Christchurch, New Zealand
The Famous Rubberband Boy is the inventor of The One Man Band (a rubberband powered human jukebox). New Zealand’s double Guinness World Record Holder, the Rubberband Boy’s acts of facial contortion and stationary antics have been admired in 26 countries around the world.

Micha Da Hann from Amsterdam, Netherlands Holder of three Guinness World records he has created giant balloon sculptures on every continent
A brand new element is also being introduced to this year’s street theatre event. Al Ghurair Centre’s Dub Fest will welcome some of the world’s most highly acclaimed 3D chalk artists to decorate the streets of Deira. The perfect picture opportunity!
This interactive event will encourage audience participation as close up magicians, street theatre comedians, live musicians and a range of international artists take to the streets, further enhancing the Al Ghurair Centre’s current free street performances that occur on a daily basis.
“Having heavily supported art, music and culture in the region with free events, the Al Ghurair Centre continues to incubate urban talent in the heart of Deira through educating and entertaining audiences.” says Thurling.
The Al Ghurair Centre’s Dub Fest is taking place on the inner street of the Al Ghurair Centre and surrounding streets from 4pm to 11pm on weekdays and 2 pm – 11 pm on weekends, 20th to 29th March. Nearest Metro: Union Square Metro Station
