Strategic Cooperation for Consumer Protection
Dubai Economic Department and Global Village to educate consumers about their rights during January

Global Village is strengthening its partnership with Government organisations by hosting a kiosk from the Dubai Economic Department from the 3rd of January to 3rd of February designed to educate the public about their consumer rights.
The information kiosk will be titled "Be right and know your consumer rights" and be located near the VIP entrance to Global Village.
The consumer awareness kiosk will include distribute information pamphlets and display food product samples to demonstrate ways to ensure the quality and validity of the items, as well as samples of international brands and their imitations.
Employees of The Consumer Protection Office from the Dubai Economic Department will be on hand to explain consumer rights to visitors and the various ways to get in touch with the Dubai Economic Department in Dubai, as well as conduct questionnaires and surveys with visitors.
Ahmed Naji, Head of the Service Centre Division of the Consumer Protection office in Dubai Economic Department, says it is the high number of visitors to Global Village each year that has encouraged the Department to take advantage of the event a great location to spread public awareness.
He explained that Global Village visitors can submit complaints by filling out the complaint form, as well as take advantage of the tips offered by the employees of the Consumer Protection Kiosk.
And he pointed out that consumer rights are defined as follows:
·         The right to safety: It is the consumer's right to be safe from products and the production processes and services that can be detrimental to their health and safety.
·         The right to know: a consumer's right to know the correct information about the goods and services (e.g. food, reference to the expiry date, and other ingredients).
·         The right of choice: the right to choose from numerous alternatives for goods and services with competitive levels of quality and prices.
·         The right to be heard: the consumer's right to express his opinion about the development of goods and services and on the prices and availability.
·         The right to education: a right to acquire knowledge, skill and awareness about their rights and duties through continuing education programs.
Mr. Naji urged the public to take advantage at Global Village over the coming month that coincides with one of the busiest times of the year for the event as it coincides with the Dubai Shopping Festival.
