IPIC to sponsor UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation
The UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation (UAEJJ) has signed a partnership agreement with the International Petroleum Investment Company (IPIC) under which IPIC will sponsor the UAEJJ’s championships.
The agreement is for an initial 12 months and may be extended to three years. It was signed at IPIC’s Conference Hall by Abdul Moneim Al Hashemi, Chairman of UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation and of the Asian Jiu-Jitsu Union (AJJU), and Khadem Abdulla Al Qubaisi, Managing Director of IPIC.
IPIC has now become a strategic partner to UAEJJ in its sporting competitions, including the Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship in April. The agreement comes at an important time for the UAEJJ, which is now the Jiu-Jitsu leader in Asia following the election of Al Hashemi as Chairman and Fahad Ali, UAEJJ Executive Director, as General Secretary of the AJJU. This means that UAEJJ’s activities will expand to become the focal point for Asia and the world, with Abu Dhabi becoming the Jiu-Jitsu world hub.
The agreement fulfills the directions of His Highness General Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the U.A.E. Armed Forces, to sponsor talented athletes practising in this sport so that they may excel and be the best representatives of the UAE. These directions mark a new chapter in the constant support provided by His Highness to sports and athletes in general and to Jiu-Jitsu in particular.
“I have pleasure in signing this partnership agreement with IPIC,” said Al Hashemi. “In addition to its important role at the economic level, IPIC also plays a vital role supporting activities and programmes that motivate UAE youth to display their capabilities and invest in their skills and talents. We highly value IPIC’s role in sponsoring many sports and other events and activities, proving that it is indeed a role model for other public and private organizations and corporations.”
Explaining the nature and value of the partnership, Al Hashemi stated: “What is important for us and for our athletes is that this partnership meets our expectations and reflects UAEJJ’s achievements. It also reflects UAEJJ’s value as a promising federation with a lot of aspirations.” He indicated that the partnership delivers benefits for both parties, as it supports Jiu-Jitsu activities on the one hand, and promotes IPIC’s corporate brand throughout the activities and globally recognized tournaments organized by UAEJJ.
“UAEJJ brings about something new every day, and we always have passion for more,” Al Hashemi said. “IPIC shares this passion with us. The UAE community now realises what Jiu-Jitsu represents on the sports and social front. This sport is not simply limited to a competition or an athlete, it has penetrated homes and schools, contributing to building a new generation that will be a great boost to our nation in its journey to development and growth.”
IPIC’s Managing Director, Khadem Abdulla Al Qubaisi, said: “IPIC has pleasure in concluding this partnership agreement with UAEJJ. For some time now, we have been following the great successes achieved by UAEJJ during various tournaments and championships, as well as through creating a very promising athlete base. This has motivated us to take part in this endeavour.
“IPIC has a social responsibility to the UAE community that requires us to take part in sponsoring national events and activities, whether on the sports, economic or social front, that contribute to the development of our community,” Al Qubaisi added. “As Jiu-Jitsu has become a social phenomenon, having penetrated many homes as well as schools, we have resolved to partner with UAEJJ to contribute to this boom which promises a bright and outstanding future.”
He said that IPIC has maintained a strong presence in sport, having partnership and sponsorship agreements in place with other sports federations. “We play an important role in serving the community on more than one front,” he said. “However, our partnership with UAEJJ is of a particular interest, due the great value of this sport, the care and support it receives, the growing number of practitioners, and above all because it is a multi-faceted endeavour, transcending the sports aspect and reaching out to social and other aspects.”
