Kiehl’s unique formulations are made with the finest and safest naturally-derived ingredients to assure the high quality of skin and hair care that customers have come to expect.  Natural ingredients have always been an important part of Kiel’s formulas since their inception as a New York Pharmacy more than 160 years ago.  For decades, they have sourced proven and effective botanical extracts from all over the world for their formulas and they are committed to only choosing ingredients for their true benefits to the skin and hair, and not for their aesthetics.  Natural ingredients used in some of Kiehl’s most popular formulations include: Squalane, Argan Oil, Evening Primrose Oil, Lavender Oil, Avocado Oil, Olive Oil, Coconut Oil, Sesame Oil, Caffeine, Rosa Gallica, Glycerin, Mannose, Lemon, Bentonite, Amazonian White Clay, Amino Acid, Vitamin C, Aloe Vera, Calendula, and Blue Algae.
Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate
Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate contains a powerful blend of essential and botanical Oils. Evening Primrose Oil is effective on skin barrier repair and boosting radiance.  Lavender Essential Oil helps soothe inflamed or irritated skin while helping reduce skin blotchiness for a more even look. Creates a brighter and more radiant look to skin.  When inhaled, the aroma of the Lavender oil possesses a calming, anti-depressive effect and can even promote restful sleep.

Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Moisturizer
Squalane, found in Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Moisturizer, is a lightly refined moisturizing oil that is steam-distilled from the olive. Squalane is quite silky to the touch and easily absorbed by skin.  It has been found to be extremely compatible with the natural oils of the skin and is Kiehl’s signature ingredient.

Kiehl’s Skin Rescuer
Rosa Gallica reduces the intensity of skin’s stress response to fatigue, redness and flare-ups.  Chamomile instantly soothes and calms visible signs of daily stress.  Mannose protects and maintains the skin barrier, making skin less vulnerable to future stress and premature aging.

Kiehl’s Rare Earth Pore Cleansing Masque
Bentonite is a colloidal aluminum silicate clay used as a suspending agent in a variety of skin care formulas including lotions and makeup. Because it absorbs oil, it is often used as a facial mask to reduce shine. Also helps to stabilize formulas. Aloe Vera, derived from the aloe vera plant has been known to soften, soothe and comfort skin. Amazonian White Clay, helps purify and detoxify skin. This clay is known to remove bacteria, toxins, excess oil and dead cells that can clog skin and result in enlarged pores.

Kiehl’s Calendula Herbal Extract Alcohol-free Toner
Calendula is extracted as an oil from the common Marigold Flower and has been used for medicinal soothing and healing purposes since the 12th century.

Olive Fruit Oil Nourishing Shampoo
Avocado Oil, derived from the fruit of a tropical American tree, is a rich, fatty-acid emollient. Avocado Oil is known to be the most moisturizing of any fruit oil.  Lemons have long had a prominent role in cosmetics and aromatherapy. They are high in natural fruit acids and have the highest percentage of Vitamin C of all the fruits. Its extracts from the fruit and essential oil (expressed from the peel) have astringent and antiseptic quality that freshens, stimulates and rejuvenates sluggish skin and adds lustrous shine to the hair. In aromatherapy, lemons inspire a cooling, refreshing and uplifting feeling.  Olive oil contains a high level of healthy monounsaturated fatty acids and antioxidant vitamin E that moisturize, protect and nourish. It is very beneficial for dry, damaged, or split hair.

Kiehl’s Eye Alert
Caffeine is a naturally occurring substance obtained as a by-product of decaffeinated coffee; known for its stimulating properties.  In skincare, it is used to help decrease puffiness.

Kiehl’s Amino Acid Shampoo and Conditioner
Amino Acids are fundamental to the human body and construct proteins. When chemically united with fatty alcohol or fatty acid, they have cleansing properties and maintain their mild amphoteric character. Amino Acids are known to moisturize by enhancing the skin's water retention.  Coconut oil is an off-white, semi-solid, highly saturated fat expressed from the kernels of the coconut. It is stable when exposed to air. Lathers readily and softens skin and is commonly used in many skin care formulations.

Kiehl’s Powerful Strength Line Reducing Concentrate
L-Ascorbic Acid, also known as Pure Vitamin C, is a highly efficacious antioxidant known for its powerful ability to improve the appearance of skin aging. Pure Vitamin C is essential for collagen synthesis and provides powerful antioxidant protection from skin damaging free-radicals.  Glycerin is a by-product of soap manufacturing and is a clear, syrupy liquid, usually derived from vegetable oil and obtained by adding alkalies to fats and fixed oils. It is used in many skin care products, as it absorbs moisture from the air and thereby helps products retain their moisture. It improves the spreadability of products and has definite skin moisturizing benefits.

Kiehl’s Facial Fuel Transformer Age Correcting Moisture Gel for Men
Naturally replete in amino acids and vitamin B, Blue Algae is known to have retinol-like properties on the skin.

Kiehl’s Ultimate Strength Hand Salve
Sesame Oil, which is a refined moisturizing oil derived from Sesame Seeds, has the same emollient properties as other nut and vegetable oils and is commonly used as a carrier oil for skin care products. Absorbs easily and softens the skin.

Kiehl's was founded as an old-world apothecary in New York's East Village neighborhood. Its unique, extensive background represents a blend of cosmetic, pharmaceutical, herbal, and medicinal knowledge developed and advanced through the generations.
