Abdul Qader Al Rais showcases “The Rising Sun” collection
The exhibition will help to create a better understanding and awareness of the region's culture and rich Arabic history.
This exclusive exhibition gives Burj Al Arab guests an opportunity to admire 13 watercolour and oil paintings artworks by Al Rais in the unique setting of Burj Al Arab’s Assawan Amphitheatre located on the 18th floor. The area has been transformed into an exhibition space for the first time since the hotel opened.

Born in 1951, Abdul Qader Al Rais is one of the most-acclaimed artists from the United Arab Emirates, whose paintings include landscape and architectural scenes inspired by traditional Emirati neighbourhoods, buildings and forts using a photorealistic style. He also creates abstract paintings incorporating Arabic letters. The use of small floating squares is a signature style carrying through his works. Recipient of the first Sheikh Khalifa Prize for Art and Literature, Dubai-born Al Rais developed his distinct style through years of experimentation. His artworks have been exhibited globally since 1965.
“The Rising Sun” artworks are to a large extent inspired by the Gulf setting, with the earthy tones of the desert, mountains, palm trees and old dwellings contrasting with vibrant hues of the sea and beaches. Different shades of yellow, orange, brown and striking red, a variety of blues, shimmering turquoise and ever-changing violet add a realistic dimension to the abstract compositions. Light and dark tones are symbolic of sunlight and shadows and the feeling of warmth and cold.Where Abdul Qader’s earlier paintings convey a sense of stillness, privacy and meditation, his abstract paintings are full of energy, urgency and excitement. It is these works of art, from the aptly named Impressionist and Saffron collections, which today bring Al Rais much critical acclaim. The artworks will be on display daily from 10 am to 10 pm from 26 November until 4 December 2013.
Abdul Qader Al Rais exhibition is the first in a series of art-related initiatives scheduled to take place at Burj Al Arab.
