Swede Henrik Stenson hosts one-off clinic with lucky group of guests
Thirty lucky international guests have had an
audience with the Iceman, Henrik Stenson, as the Race to Dubai and FedEx Cup
champion hosted a one-off clinic with a small group of tourists who were
visiting the UAE capital for this year’s Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship at
Abu Dhabi Golf Club.
The guests got unique insights into the mind and
approach of the World Number three, as he revealed his top tips for improving
all round games. The super Swede said: “A common problem many golfers encounter
is feeling ‘stuck between clubs’, unable to decide which to use when out on the
course. The key to overcoming this is really getting to know your clubs,
spending time on the range and recording how far you’re hitting with everything
you’ve got in your bag.”
The 37-year-old added: “I’m now at the stage where I
know exactly how far I’m hitting with each of my clubs, for example my nine
iron is carrying 140 yards whereas my four iron is nearer 200!”
The fans who travelled from regional and international
destinations, including Switzerland, Guernsey and Saudi Arabia spent just over
an hour with Stenson, whose enigmatic personality has proven a hit with golf
fans at this year’s event. Seasoned golf fan Nigel Ward, here at the
Championship for the first time, said: “To be given such a unique opportunity
as this has been a real treat and fantastic addition to our visit to Abu Dhabi.
I’m hoping I can put Henrik’s tips into practice when back out on the golf
course!”
The 63-year-old Channel Island resident added: “With
such a strong line up at this year’s event, my wife and I needed little
persuasion before booking! As part of our championship package, we’ve also been
lucky enough to get out and play on some of the region’s top courses, including
Saadiyat Beach Golf Club and Yas Links. Next up on our to do list is a trip
into the Arabian Desert!”
Tickets are still
available for Saturday and Sunday via the event’s official website - www.abudhabigolfchampionship.com - and Ticketmaster (www.ticketmaster.ae), at AED50 for a daily pass and AED150 for a season
pass. Guests staying at any Abu Dhabi hotel over the Championship period enter
free.
