Fazza Championship for Shooting to offer free training to contestants in traditional weaponry
Skilled trainers to offer lessons in the use of the ‘Saktoun’

The Fazza Championship for Shooting is set to host a free three-day training session for interested participants in the run up to the Championship which will commence on 28 January 2014 in Ruwayyah. The Championship that is being organised by the Hamdan Bin Mohammed Heritage Center under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai has already attracted widespread interest from the region.
  
The training will commence on 24 January 2014 from 8 am to 4 pm in Ruwayyah, at Dubai Police shooting arena, near Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Sports Complex on Emirates Road (Dubai Bypass Road) and will be conducted by qualified trainers well versed in the art of traditional weaponry. These sessions will open to both UAE and GCC nationals and the Championships themselves will see the use of the traditional Saktoun or Brno rifle.

The growing popularity of the sport has resulted in the introduction of a new category this season for the more senior and experience shooters. For the first time participants above the age of 54 would be able to compete alongside the Male, Female and Junior Boys and Junior Girls categories.
 
Souad Darwish, Director of the Fazza Championships explained: “Shooting has been known to the Arabian Peninsula since the dawn of Islam and has been practised with great fervor in the region.

“The Saktoun rifle has been used traditionally in hunting and people from all walks of life are familiar with the weapon. We are very proud to announce the start of this Championship and offer interested contestants the chance to train under the guidance of professional shooters and benefit from their guidance.”
 
Mohammed Obaid Bin Abid Al Muhairy is the Head of the Organising Committee of Fazza Championship for Shooting. He said: “This particular Championship has grown remarkably since its inception, particularly among UAE and Omani nationals.
The Juniors category for Girls was added last year and there is already an additional category of Seniors that we have included in this year’s edition of the Championship. The number of women participating has also doubled in the last 3 years as the popularity of these traditional shooting skills has grown.”


The Fazza Championship for Shooting is expected to draw a record number of participants when it opens on 28 January 2014.
