New Scylla 35 is Sharjah
company’s first cabin vessel
UAE boat builder Al Marakeb is making waves with
the launch of its first cabin vessel, the Scylla 35. The Sharjah-based company
has already made a splash in local nautical circles with its range of
speedboats and is now expanding its quay-side line up with the 35 foot model,
its first dip into the water with a covered cruising craft.
The Scylla 35 has the same hull dimensions and
motor specifications as the company’s popular Triton 35 model, but comes with an
added cabin providing features such as beds, sofas, lighting fixtures, toilet
and air conditioning unit. The company has increased the specifications over
its standard vessel in order to appeal to ocean lovers who want to spend
extended periods camping out at sea.
“Our new Scylla 35 was originally designed to
be an affordable platform for aquatic adventurers who enjoy spending longer
periods on the ocean,” said Basel Shuhaiber, Founder and Managing Director, Al
Marakeb. “As the design and development of the project became more intense, we
modified the boat to suit more activities. Now it has become a vessel that is
more than suitable for activities such as weekend off-shore cruising, game
fishing, open water diving and small family dinner gatherings at a marina. It’s
a craft that can take you anywhere and allow you to comfortably camp out over
the weekend,” he added.
According to the ancient Greeks, Scylla was a
sea monster that lived on one side of a narrow channel of water, opposite its
counterpart Charybdis. The two sides of the strait were within an arrow's range
of each other, so boats attempting to avoid Charybdis would pass too close to
Scylla and vice versa. But whereas proximity was an issue with sailors and the
mythological Scylla, its modern incarnation offers no such range limitations
and is able to travel over 300km on a single tank. The craft is also currently
priced at AED 145,000 as part of a special launch deal from Al Marakeb, putting
it into the reach of those who wouldn’t normally consider being able to afford such
a vessel.
“Enjoying an exciting recreational experience
such as camping out at sea is something that is the Scylla 35 makes more
affordable,” said Shuhaiber. “For a relatively modest outlay, you can have your
own private family boat docked at the marina. It’s a great value acquisition
that can transform your leisure activities and open up whole new recreational
world for you and family,” he added.
Established in 2007, Al Marakeb is
fast-growing manufacturer of high-performance powerboats. From being a small
local start up, the company has an achieved exponential growth rate year on year.
Al Marakeb produces four standard models alongside the Scylla 35 - the Habbar
25, Spartan 25, Dino 31 and Triton 35, all with flexible personalisation
options. Al Marakeb supplies vessels to private and commercial buyers in the
regional and international markets. Currently, the company’s network extends
into the GCC, North Africa and Asia.
