6th Annual VIVA Beauty Awards winners announced on May
22
Voting across 10 categories
closes tomorrow, May 15
VIVA, the
biggest selling women’s monthly glossy magazine across the GCC, is gearing up
to celebrate, once again, the best in beauty, on its sixth annual VIVA Beauty Awards and Hair Show 2013, held
on May 22, 2013 at the sumptuous Fairmont The Palm.
After
weeks of exhaustive research, testing and analysis, hundreds of contenders
across categories such as skin care, hair care, make-up and fragrance have been
whittled down to an outstanding shortlist, with the help of a judging panel
including make-up artist Zareen Shah and the stunning make-up artist and beauty
blogger Huda Kattan.
The
winners in each of the 10 categories are picked by thousands of avid beauty
consumers, via public voting, a process which is audited by BPA (Business
Publications Audit of Circulations). Over
the years, the VIVA Beauty Awards
badge has become a sought-after token for brands, highlighting the choices
consumers make for their beauty needs.
Created
in 2006, the VIVA Beauty Awards have
gone from strength to strength in boosting awareness about the breadth and
depth of the beauty industry, from high-end prestige brands, to brands found in
convenience and drug stores.
In a
market place characterised by increasing segmentation and personalisation, the
Awards are also providing women with a brand new perspective on beauty, from cutting
edge formulations and new ingredients to novel approaches to solving beauty
problems.
“The
region’s beauty industry has transformed rapidly under our very eyes. The
leading products and brands shortlisted in the 10 categories of the Awards represent
a meaningful change and choice in today’s Middle East women approach to beauty.
There are amazing innovations taking place in every beauty category worldwide,
and it’s remarkable to see these innovations being adopted by consumers from
here as well,” explained Anita Quade, Editor of VIVA magazine.
“Most
of all, we’re delighted to provide a platform to recognise and celebrate the
best beauty brands and products and we look forward to announcing them in style
at this year’s awards ceremony later this month”, concluded Quade.
Beauty
and personal care is a massive and continuously growing market in the Middle
East, with the UAE and Saudi Arabia leading the way in terms of market size
across colour cosmetics, hair care, fragrances, skin care and spa.
The
colour cosmetics sector in the region is expected to reach US$ 2.3 bn by 2014, while
the hair care market is estimated to surpass the half billion dollar mark in
2015, in Saudi Arabia alone.
In
2011, the Saudi Arabian market for fragrances reached close to a billion
dollars (US$ 981.6 mil), and the UAE registered an estimated US$ 225.7 mil.
Skin
care is considered the most dynamic sector in the GCC, as it has more than
doubled between 2005 and 2010, when it reached approx. US$ 650.9 mil. While
body care represents the largest market segment, anti-ageing witnessed a 74%
growth spurt in the same period of time (2005 – 2010), and all signs point to
continuous growth.
This
year’s VIVA Beauty Awards are
sponsored by L’Oréal Professionnel, Sephora, So Famous and Fairmont The Palm
Dubai.
Voting is open to public who can
