Speaking ahead of a special FA Cup Final screening for supporters in Abu Dhabi this weekend, the midfielder talked about about the game, his recent new contract and his hopes of one day bringing UEFA Champions League glory to the club.
“This is an amazing competition that we have here in England and when you get to a final like this you have to go and win it,” said Yaya in response to a question about what people outside of England think about the FA Cup.
“We are all looking forward to it and we are all lucky to be part of it. It is now the most important trophy as it is all we have left this season.”
On Saturday night, Manchester City supporters from around the UAE will head to Zayed Sports City to watch the FA Cup Final against Wigan Athletic with kick-off at 8.15pm UAE time.
The Fan Zone, which includes free refreshments and half-time competitions, is part of the official Sky Blue UAE membership scheme.
Sky Blue members also sent questions to Yaya about his recent new contract and his hopes for going further with the team in the UEFA Champions League next season.
“I signed the contract a month ago and now I have to look forward. The first thing for this year is to try and win the FA Cup and then next year we try to look at what we are doing here,” he said.
“The Champions League is one of the most difficult competitions to win in the world. This year has gone but when we go into next year I think we need to challenge as a club.”
