Brain
stimulation and new relaxation area are part of charitable outreach
The
mental and physical health of Ajman’s senior citizens are receiving a boost
thanks to Majid Al Futtaim Ventures, the growth engine responsible for some of
the region’s most innovative concepts, through a charitable endowment of two
new facilities, at the Elderly Nursing Home- Ajman - a centre founded in
association with the UAE Ministry of Social Affairs.
One of the new concepts
made possible through the support of Majid Al Futtaim Ventures is the ‘Brain Exercise
Room’ – a concept based on research around retaining mental capabilities and
preventing the onset of age-related memory loss and Alzheimer’s. The stimulating environment enables residents
of the home and visiting seniors to engage in puzzles, word games, chess and
other activities to promote healthy brain functionality.
In addition, the Elderly
Nursing Home- Ajman has inaugurated a new Majid Al Futtaim Ventures-sponsored
recreation area, a furnished, shaded and landscaped outdoor Jalsa, in which residents
and guests can socialize and enjoy fresh air.
“Extensive research on the
subject of mental health shows that the greater the number of
stimulating activities such as doing puzzles, playing board or card games,
having group discussions and playing music are engaged in by senior citizens,
the longer the delay of signs of brain aging, including rapid memory loss and
the onset of Alzheimer’s and dementia,” said Laila Amin Al
Zaruni, Manager of Elderly Nursing Home, Ajman.
“Our
new ‘Brain Exercise Room’ and recreation facilities will provide tremendous
benefit to both our live-in residents and out-patients here at the Home.”
“The installation of these two fantastic
facilities has been made possible with the support of our partners, in
particular Majid Al Futtaim Ventures, who have shown continued commitment to
this vital cause,” said H. E Mr. Naji El Hay, Undersecretary, Ministry of Social Affairs. “We look
forward to working together on future projects and strengthening our
partnership with Majid Al Futtaim Ventures going forward.”
Laila Amin Al Zaruni and H. E
Mr. Naji El Hay were
joined by Senior Officials from Majid Al Futtaim Ventures to experience the new
facilities at the Home today.
“Contributing to the
mental and physical health of the most senior members of the communities in
which we operate is a key objective for Majid Al Futtaim Ventures as part of our
core company’s mission to Care Always and show respect to others, and our expanded
partnership with the Nursing Home - Ajman and the UAE Ministry of Social
Affairs is an ideal example of this outreach,” said Fareda Abdullah, Vice
President, Human Capital & Corporate Communications, Majid Al Futtaim Ventures. “We look
beyond our commercial activities to add value and innovation to the lives of
our customers, their families and the wider community, and the nurturing of our
senior population is part of that goal.”
The provision of new
mental health and physical recreation facilities builds upon Majid Al Futtaim
Ventures’ earlier endowment to the Home, which included planting 41 Union Trees
in support of the UAE’s 41st National Day initiative in 2012.
The Elderly Nursing
Home - Ajman is a
facility dedicated to the well-being of the community’s elderly population and
provides in-patient and out-patient services such as physiotherapy, social
services and psychiatric care. In addition to the Ajman facility, the
organization also oversees the operations of two nursing homes in Umm Al Quwain
and Fujairah.
