GATSBY GROOMING
A Gentleman’s Grooming Guide for the 1920’s
Dandy Daddy
With
the release of Baz Luhrmann’s epic ‘The Great Gatsby’ this summer, it appears
the whole world has gone 1920s crazy. Tap into your inner Gatsby and the
dandy daddy style of the roaring twenties with this selection of fresh,
handmade male grooming products from the cosmetic delicatessen LUSH, a perfect
way to celebrate Father’s day in style! …
Clean
cut, slicked back and immaculate hair symbolises the style of the twenties …
use Dirty hair styling
cream (70aed for 100g) to hold hair in place with a natural,
matt finish. There’s also linseed infusion and plant butters to keep your
hair in good condition.
The
1920’s gentleman has a smooth, clean shaven face. Prepare your skin for a
close shave by exfoliating twice a week to scrub away any dead skin cells and
to deal with any in-growing stubble. Choose an astringent cleanser like Ocean Salt (95aed for 100g)
for a vigorous polishing action. This can be used in the shower for all
over exfoliating; it contains limes, coarse sea salt and fresh grapefruit
infusion. Added avocado butter, extra virgin coconut oil and seaweed
absolute soften the skin and keep it supple.
Get
a close shave and a smooth finish with Prince
triple orange blossom shaving cream (60aed for 100g pot).
More of a moisturiser than a foaming gel; it contains linseed mucilage and rose
water to soften stubble for a really close shave; cocoa butter, almond oil and
shea butter to leave the skin calm and soft; and beeswax to lock in moisture
and provide a light coating for the skin to cushion it from the blade.
Follow
with Cosmetic Lad
moisturiser (130aed for 45g) that contains soothing aloe
vera gel, shea butter and cocoa butter. The Gatsby lifestyle with late nights
can cause skin to dehydrate so this great multi-purpose product can help
replenish lost moisture; calm, heal and protect the skin after shaving; and reduce
redness.
Treat
the odd blemish with the antiseptic treatment gel Grease Lightning (65aed for 45g)
and soothe any sore skin with the multi-purpose Ultrabalm (90aed for 45g); can be used
for chapped lips, flyaway hair, to tame stray eyebrows or even keep your
moustache in place.
Complete
the Dandy persona with a dab of The
Voice of Reason (prices start at 50aed), a fragrance
reminiscent of smoky basement clubs, exhaled through jazz trumpets and wrapped
in mischief. With the strong aroma of French Gitane cigarettes and
espresso, sandalwood and tonka bean are major ingredients.
