Klayya Bakery & Sweets Supports Emirati Artistic Talent in the Spirit of Ramadan with ‘Klayya Lantern’ Event

Klayya Bakery & Sweets, Dubai’s favourite authentic Emirati bakery, has recently launched an initiative promoting Emirati artist talent and giving back to the community in the spirit of Ramadan and Zayed Humanitarian Day. This was marked by the successful “Klayya Lantern” event held at the bakery on the 28th of July. Fifteen Emirati lanterns were designed by fifteen Emirati artists, each producing an individual and unique artwork. The lanterns were sold during the event and all proceeds were donated to Dar Al Ber Society in order to help vulnerable families during Ramadan and Eid.

At the event, which was held in collaboration with Emirati artist Fatima Al Mulla, the lanterns were prominently displayed throughout the bakery, where guests were able to not only view the talented designers’ work, but also interact with the artists and understand the inspiration behind their creations.

The ‘Klayya Lantern’ initiative is aimed at supporting a new generation of local creative talent as well as promoting Emirati art and food in the spirit of giving back during Ramadan.
The list of participating artists included Fatima Al Mulla, Hamdan Al Shamsi, Khalid Bin Hamad, Emirates Diaries, Khaloodies, Afra Bin Dhaher,  Sheika Bin Dhaher, Wafa Al Marzouki, Khawla Darwish, Sara Al Arif, Keswah, Latifa Al Shamsi, Alia Al Marri, Majeda Ahmed Al Musalli and Hessa Al Serkal.

The ‘Klayya Lantern’ initiative is closely aligned with Owner and Founder, Asma Al Falasi’s core value of encouraging and supporting local talent, food, tradition and culture. Ms Al Falasi is a young female Emirati entrepreneur herself and aims to share her passion for local food, heritage and culture with the Dubai community.
A raffle was held at the end of the event and three lucky winners will get to experience an authentic Emirati breakfast for two at Klayya Bakery & Sweets.

Pinko Fall-Winter 13/14 @PINKOworldwide

Fall Winter ‘13/14
Pinko’s latest collection encourages women to explore their style, offering creative ways and options to combine and match their looks this winter. This season Pinko focuses on rich themes like ‘Sporty Gypsy,’ Sixties slink,’ and  ‘Androgeny.’ The result is a series of strong looks blending all these influences and inspirations– ‘60s shapes in tech fabrics, sleek cuts, camouflage prints, candy colours and fun detailing, making winter fun!
Sixties Slink. Revisit the influences and inspirations behind that revolutionary age by showcasing three different bold, sassy and versatile looks fine for a mild early fall season bustling with both casual and dressy occasions. Skirts may still play up bare legs, while jackets are definitely open to all possibilities.
Sporty Gypsy. Rethink the gypsy style and palette by adding a clearly boyish and contemporary slant. Color combinations are smart and strong, shapes a matter of severity elegance. The fanciful flair, by contrast, emerges in a few precise elements: the pattern on a sweater, the print of a blouse, the cut of a dress, the tapestry effect of a jacket, a most unusual material mix. Now Flower Power gives way to Urban Connection.

Androgeny. Reinterpret mannish style, imbuing the concept with novel twists and turns. As in a slightly baggy cut to highlight a sexy detail, or long fluid feminine/nude mix to offset the pure masculinity of a jacket. On the color front, a palette of slate grays joins forces with free-for-all white and luscious hints of framboise pink.

The UAE would be a nation of engineers, if parents had their way @hp

HP reveals the professions parents  would prefer their children to pursue

HP Ink Advantage - MUM and DAD
Parents only ever want the best for their children. New research[i] released today from HP suggests that given the choice, over a fifth of UAE parents would most like their child to become an engineer, indicating the significance of construction and development in the UAE. While engineering clearly remains a highly respected profession, as a sign of the times, one in five parents would opt for their child to become an entrepreneur, suggesting the high regard given to strong business acumen in the UAE.

With parental encouragement and children’s creativity flourishing, less conventional roles are on the rise. In fact, while becoming a doctor or scientist (10%) remains popular with parents, other traditional professions, such as law and journalism are low on the list of career choices parents would like for their children, with just 4% and 1%, respectively opting for these roles for their child. In fact, UAE parents would far rather their children are free to express their artistic side with ‘creative professional’ being the fourth most favoured career path (12%).
The HP Ink Advantage 5525 e-All-in-One printer

Old or new, there is one thing these careers all have in common - a good education is essential to success. Studying and revision are vital to any child and with children needing to print out more and more revision notes and school projects, printing costs can often be a concern for even the most dedicated and high-aspiring parent. HP’s Ink Advantage printing system is the ideal solution to this, enabling families to print twice as many pages for the same cost as before. With HP Ink Advantage, printing costs are no longer a barrier to children achieving more.

Education expert Professor Sarah Moore commented: “Education is the key to success in any career, be that in the journey to becoming a doctor - or a designer. One of the best methods of efficient studying is to print out revision or study notes. Children often find they absorb information better when reading from the page so printing can be a real aid to effective studying.”

Kees Verton, Printing Category Manager,
Printing and Personal Systems, HP ME-2
Kees Verton, Printing Category Manager, Printing and Personal Systems Groups at HP Middle East, said: “At HP we want to encourage children to follow their dreams, the innovative HP Ink Advantage range allows students and their parents to print twice as much for the same price. This means that there never needs to be a compromise when it comes to learning.”

The HP Ink Advantage system includes five new inkjet printers ideal for home use to print study notes, homework assignments and presentations. Plus two new HP Ink Advantage high-capacity cartridges address a dependency on unreliable third-party ink alternatives. The cartridges match the quality and reliability of other Original HP ink cartridges with a consistent page yield and they can print twice as much for the same cost, while delivering archive-quality documents and lab-quality photos. All of the new printers offer HP ePrint and HP wireless direct printing so that anyone can print immediately from any wireless-enabled devices – without a network.

Kiehl’s Now Open At Dubai Mall @Kiehls

After a long wait, Kiehl’s, your favorite quirky apothecary from New York has opened the doors of its first stand alone boutique in the Middle East at the prestigious Dubai Mall.  Known for quality skincare products that speak for themselves, customer satisfaction at the top of the priority list, with a team dedicated to satisfying your every need.  The Kiehl’s boutique in Dubai Mall stocks a comprehensive range of skincare, body care & hair care products for women & men with remedies for everything from frizzy hair to summer meltdowns to dry skin in the winter.
As with every Kiehl’s boutique, the brand’s favorite ambassador - Mr. Bones, who has become a part of the brand’s DNA, welcomes customers to find a remedy for their every need.  An exciting addition to this boutique is the in-store treatment room which will afford clients the opportunity to get private skin consultations with the knowledgeable KCRs - Kiehl’s Customer Representatives.  For those still unsure of their purchase, Kiehl’s offers sample sizes to all its customers, a part of their “Try Before you Buy” philosophy, knowing that anyone who tries a moisturizer, shampoo or serum will come back for the full sized bottle!
Kiehl’s is now available at 3 locations in Dubai – The Kiehl’s Boutique, Dubai Mall (Beside Starbucks, Above the Jewelry Court); Bloomingdales, Dubai Mall and Harvey Nichols, Mall of the Emirates.
162 Years of Kiehl’s – A Heritage of Service
Built on the corner of Thirteenth Street and Third Avenue in New York City, USA, the first ever Kiehl’s pharmacy hasn’t changed much since its humble beginnings. John Kiehl and his apprentice, Irving Morse, began their business selling old world myths along with truly effective remedies.  Passed down through the Kiehl’s family, John Kiehl handed the store to his apprentice, who then passed it down to his son Aaron, a former WWII pilot. With each new generation, the store developed new personality traits but always stayed true to its roots.
A brand built on customer loyalty and a focus on service and customer satisfaction; Kiehl’s has always stood apart. At one stage, realizing that men would not stay in the store while their wives were shopping, Aaron Morse brought in a collection of items to interest them, including his personal collection of Harleys. Stories say that at one point there was even a stunt airplane displayed in the store! With bikes in the front and creams in the back, the little corner shop at Thirteenth & Third became the talk of the town.
Rather than being hyper-driven, Aaron focused on building loyal customer base. Known for giving generous samples to each customer, Kiehl’s constructed its image based on ‘try before you buy’. To date, the brand has never invested in advertising, instead handing out approximately 8.5 million samples each year. Due in part to their unique image, and in part to Aaron Morse’s determination and contribution to the pharmaceutical world, Kiehl’s in all it’s quirky glory was institutionalized, at the Smithsonian Museum in NYC, where over 100 of their original bottles and labels have been displayed for decades and can still be found today.

When Aaron’s daughter Jami Morse took over the company in the 1990’s, she initiated Kiehl’s philanthropic efforts that have since become an integral part of the brand. In collaboration with Magic Johnson, Jami launched the Magic Elixir range, where 100% of the profits went towards benefiting the Magic Johnson Foundation for the social, educational and physical well being of urban youths. Kiehl’s has since initiated several regional and international collaborations to support its main Kiehl’s Gives charity focuses (Children, Environment and Aids) including the iconic Holiday Crème De Corps that is launched every Christmas across the globe. Other popular initiatives such as Hand Care for a Cure to benefit AmFAR (American Foundation for AIDS research); and the fund to support the Harvard Center for Cancer Biology have also shown great success.  On Earth Day in both 2012 and 2013, Kiehl’s UAE donated proceeds from specific products in the Rare Earth Range towards donating Ghaf trees through locally based environmental initiative, Goumbook.

As the brand grew in name and fame, so did its product range. Each new member to the Kiehl’s family inspired a line. Jami’s husband, a professional athlete, inspired the all-sport range, and the birth of her daughter brought about Kiehl’s baby care. In this way, Kiehl’s has grown slowly, changing hands but never changing its image and identity. Today, it is one of the most loved and appreciated brands in the world of natural, efficacious skincare. With numerous samples, motorbikes and delivery apes (as legend has it, Aaron Morse would personally oversee home delivery to his most loyal customers. He would knock on their doors and hide away to the side, leaving an ape with their delivery bag standing in the doorway) it is no wonder that Kiehl’s has created an unmovable and ever-growing niche for itself in the global market.

Emirati artists represent their support for the @tawasulfund Tawasul Orphan Education Fund through the auctioning of their art

Masterpieces from leading Emirati artists provide a creative way of uplifting orphans through education
Emiratis are actively engaging with the local community in using art as a trigger to make a charitable difference. Tawasul Orphans Education Fund, is giving Emirati artists a chance to contribute to the education of underprivileged children, through the auctioning of their own work.

Tawasul Online Charity Auction is held under the patronage of His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the UAE Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, and Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher Bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Wife of the Ruler of Sharjah, Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs and Patron of Sharjah Business Women Council.

Jasmin Ruehling, Program Executive at Sharjah Business Women Council for the Tawasul Charity Auction, commented: “We are privileged to have four of the nation’s most prominent artists immersing themselves in this initiative and reinventing themselves as role models in support of our cause. We see the merger of art and charity as a creative way for Emiratis to make a life-changing contribution in their communities.”

Sumayyah Al-Suweidi, the first female Emirati digital artist, is one of the four featured artists and has been a strong force in the art world both regionally and internationally. Illustrating the diversity in the types of art being auctioned, Mattar Bin Lahej is a self-taught artist who is active in sculpture, painting and photography, and has also submerged himself in the regional and international artistic landscape. Maitha Bin Demaithan, a visual artist and video designer and Maisoon Al Saleh are also offering their masterpieces to the highest bidder in Tawasul’s online auction.

Further elaborating on art-driven charity, Summayah Al-Suweidi said: “Most artists are inspired by their communities, so this is a unique opportunity for us to give back to the community that shaped us. If one artist can touch the lives of an entire population, Tawasul’s online auction proves that the generosity of a few bidders can dramatically transform the lives of many orphans.”

Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher Bint Mohammed Al Qasimi passionately believes that art is a powerful medium that overcomes obstacles and initiates change, easing the suffering of orphans and giving their lives a blank canvas on which they can paint a brighter future. The initiative has been developed to help orphans cultivate their academic skills, giving them a chance to prosper at institutes of higher education in the country.

Proceeds of the auction will fund higher education as well as professional training and development for orphans across the UAE. Bidding is currently ongoing and interested participants can immediately place their bids on the Tawasul charity website: www.tawasulfund.ae/home
