Fifty
leading modern, contemporary art and design galleries from around the world
will participate in the fifth edition of Abu Dhabi Art (from 20-23 November)
in the UAE Pavilion and Manarat
Al Saadiyat on Saadiyat Island this year.
Organised by
Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority (TCA Abu Dhabi) and sponsored by Bank
Julius Baer Co. Ltd, Abu Dhabi Art announces a record return rate of galleries,
cementing itself as a leading platform for culture and a highly anticipated
event on the international arts calendar. Galleries will exhibit under the five sections: Modern & Contemporary Galleries, Beyond, Design as well as Bidaya (one emerging gallery) and Signature (exhibiting galleries presenting emerging artists). Abu Dhabi Art will be presenting a new project that will allow visitors to ‘discover’ artworks by emerging artists and galleries. This will be shown in exhibition format and curated by Fabrice Bousteau as part of the sixth edition of Art, Talks and Sensations.
“This year’s applications were overwhelming and we’re delighted with the 91% return rate of galleries taking advantage of opportunities offered by Abu Dhabi’s growing cultural landscape. Cultivating an art market is an important step in the maturity of any cultural hub and Abu Dhabi Art is one of the many driving forces behind this progress; supporting UAE and regional artists, bringing museum-quality art work to Abu Dhabi and creating a wide array of public programmes,” says Rita Aoun-Abdo, Executive Director, Culture Sector, TCA Abu Dhabi.
The artists and works represented will be accompanied by Public Programme featuring leading figures in the art world (including artists and gallery owners from participating galleries), encouraging audience awareness and involvement, and offering additional experiences through exhibitions, talks, conversations and design workshops as well as Art Zone, a dedicated space for children. Abu Dhabi Art is sponsored by Bank Julius Baer Co. Ltd.
