Klayya Bakery & Sweets @Klayyabites Initiative Provides Platform for Emirati Artistic Talent in Support of @DarAlBerSociety Charity

‘Klayya Lantern!’

In the spirit of the holy month of Ramadan, Klayya Bakery & Sweets, Dubai’s favourite authentic Emirati bakery, is launching the ‘Klayya Lantern’ initiative which is giving emerging Emirati artists a platform to shine in support of local charity Dar Al Ber which protects orphans, widows and vulnerable families. The collaboration is aimed at supporting a new generation of local creative talent as well as promoting Emirati art and food in the spirit of giving back during Ramadan.
Fifteen Emirati designers and artists will each design and provide their own twist to the traditional Emirati lantern producing fifteen unique and individual art pieces. The lanterns will be exhibited and put up for sale throughout the bakery at an event to be held on the 28thof July. All the proceeds from the sale of the lanterns will be donated to Dar Al Ber and will be used to help vulnerable families during Ramadan and Eid.
Klayya Bakery & Sweets was launched in December 2012 with the aim of bringing and sharing apassion for local food and heritage with the Dubai community. The initiative is closely aligned with Owner and Founder, Asma Al Falasi’s   core value of encouraging and supporting local talent, food, tradition and culture. Ms Al Falasi says: “I’ve always been passionate about Emirati food, art and culture and there is no better way to showcase this than through an initiative that gives back to the community in the spirit of the month of giving! As a graphic designer myself, I view art as the medium that allows us to continue renewing our heritage and hence maintain our cultural identity as Emiratis.
This initiative is about transforming a symbol of our culture, the Emirati lantern, into modern artwork and at the same time building bridges between us and those less fortunate in society by emphasizing our common tradition.”
The event will take place on 28 July at Klayya Bakery & Sweets, located on the 1st floor of Al Barsha Mall in Dubai, from 10pm – 12am where guests will be invited to sample authentic Emirati delicacies for Suhoor.
