6th Dubai International Dance Festival

The
region’s largest dance event, the Dubai International Dance Festival (DIDF) is
set to kick off its sixth year from 25th to 28th
September 2013 at The Dubai Community Theatre & Arts Center (DUCTAC), Mall
of the Emirates.
The event which
celebrates all genres and styles of dance in Dubai, is dubbed the biggest event
of its kind in the region promises to showcase the best young talent from Dubai,
regionally and from around the world with performers expected to travel to the
Emirate to participate in this annual festival.
This year’s main highlight is the world
premiere of ‘Salsa Fever - 100 years of
Latin Music and Dance’, a musical which tells the story of ‘The history of
Salsa’ like it has never been told before. The performance, presents a unique
twist, where the voice of the singers together with the element of dance takes
you on a journey through the centuries.
It starts with reliving the birth and
evolution of Salsa, from the roots of Africa in the 1400’s to birth of salsa in
Cuba, the rise of the Fania All Stars in the 1970’s, the era of Salsa Romantica
& Latin Pop and ends at the amazing fusion of dance and music of today.
The four day
event hosted by Familia de la Salsa features over 25 different workshops
including Salsa, Zouk, Belly Dancing, Hip Hop, African Dance, Brazilian Samba
and Tango. The workshops will cater to all levels of dance and is led by the best
instructors from national, regional and international dance schools, giving
participants the opportunity to experience the different rhythms and styles of
dance and opportunities
to perform theatre performances and experience the magic of dance.
In additional to
the dance workshops, DIDF 2013 will host a series of performances, parties,
after parties and other exciting events at varies venues around Dubai.
DIDF was created
by a team of professionals with an overriding passion and love for dance; its main
aim is to serve as a stage for dancers to share experiences with fellow performers
and artistes from around the world.
The festival now
in its 6th year witnesses a steady growth in participation and
technical dancers due to its unique multi-arts nature and continues to attract
some of the most reputable dance companies, classical dance academies, youth
orchestras, bands and musical ensembles, designed to enhance the region’s
growing dance scene.
The festival is
also a catalyst for creative activity and artistic collaborations between the
UAE and the rest of the world, further supported by an education program, new
ideas and visions.
