@AlGhurairCentre 5,000 PEOPLE TURN OUT FOR THE BATTLE OF THE BANDS MUSIC COMPETITION

The Al Ghurair Centre celebrates the best in local musical talent
In part to celebrate National Day and the talent of the UAE, the Al Ghurair Centre in Deira, Dubai’s oldest shopping mall, held its Battle of the Bands music competition live on its outdoor stage this weekend.
The weekend attracted an estimated 5,000 spectators with the grand final taking place on Saturday. The activity itself is part of a much wider programme of live, free entertainment in and around the mall, capitalising on its strong presence in Deira and its street-side location, making it the soul of the city.
The winner,  Sagisag (Tagalog for symbol) rocked out with several classic rock and funk anthems like “I Want to Break Free” and “Play That Funky Music”.  Having been chosen by the battle’s esteemed panel of industry experts, they then played an off the cuff 45 minute set that had the whole crowd on their feet dancing.
The sort after panel of judges included Dan Bolton of Bareface, Louie de Costa and Bluebird of Tag 91.1, Grayson and Sejoy of Melody House, Mina Liccione and Yafei.
Other bands from the large volume of entrants included Day Walker, Drasbor, In Times of Despair and Internal Gravity to name just a few.
The Al Ghurair Centre continue to celebrate and embrace live performances in their Central Atrium and around the mall as part of their street theatre feel that has seen internationally recognised dance-troupes, magicians and other performers take to the stage at the recently expanded mall. For a full line-up of free, family-friendly events at the mall visit www.AlGhurairCentre.com .
