On Friday, Sept 27, 2013 at IMAX Meydan, Dubai

Doors open 7pm, Show starts 8pm
Tina Sani needs no introduction, for her talent speaks for itself. Her heart rendering melodies have gained her worldwide recognition. Her innate love for classic Urdu poetry has been instrumental in bringing its depth and mesmerizing magic to appreciative audiences everywhere.  Tina Sani began her journey in music in 1979 by initiating formal training in Indian classical music with Ustad Nizamuddin Khan Sahib son of Ustad Ramzan Khan Sahib of Delhi gharana and later on with Ustad Chand Amrohvi.
Her naturally resonant and rich voice quality is perfect for Ghazal singing. But it is her years of training and practice in classical music and raga that has brought maturity, malleability and fluidity to her voice. Tina commands complete control over her voice and the beauty of her art lies in the effortless ease with which she can render a difficult ghazal or a nazm.
Tina brings with her, her own passion for knowledge and understanding of Urdu poetry; this permits her to effectively convey the delicate nuances, emotions and moods of a ghazal or a nazm across to her audience, putting the right amount of emphasis on a word or stretching a pause long enough for the right effect. Her flawless pronunciation, clarity of her voice and selection of her repertoire, reflects that she is no ordinary artist. She often brings a new perspective to a piece of poetry, giving it her own interpretation which makes her performances highly interactive.
In recognition of her valuable contribution to music spanning over nearly 3 decades, Tina was conferred upon the highest civilian award in Pakistan, the President’s Pride of Performance, in 2004.
Boulevard One is organizing this memorable evening paying tribute to the three most illustrious and distinguished poets of our times ; Rumi, Iqbal and Faiz. The format of the evening is as follows:
Tina sings Rumi:
Convinced that words of Rumi will resonate with anyone who is trying to understand the 'bigger picture' of life, Tina initiated recording Movlana Jalaludin Rumi’s Mathnavi in Urdu, to bring the works of this powerful 12th century Sufi-saint to people who do not understand Persian. She presented for the first time, a selection of the opening verses of Rumi's Mathnavi, titled 'Nawa-e-Ney', a nearly 30 minutes piece, at the Lahore Faiz Festival in February 2013.  This piece earned her a huge applause from a highly discerning audience, and has given her the much needed confidence that this work now must be recorded for posterity.
Tina sings Iqbal:
In April 2009, Tina was invited to Ireland to perform Allama Iqbal’s famous piece, a lament to God “Shikwa, Jawab-e-Shikwa” alongside Irish musicians who performed Yeat’s poetry. Irish poetry too has a popular tradition of 'laments'.
Iqbal penned this famous “nazm” in 1909 and 1911 respectively, questioning the state of muslims in the world. Tina will sing one part and the other part will be recited by Adeel Hashmi. It is an adaptation of “Shikwa Jawab-e-Shikwa” widely appreciated by connoisseurs of urdu poetry and music around the world.
 Tina sings Faiz:
A revolutionary poet whose work ignited the souls of his admirers world over, Faiz Ahmed Faiz will also be remembered at the IMAX Meydan Theatre, Dubai.
Year 2011 was poet Faiz A Faiz’s centenary year for which Tina specially released her debut Faiz Album titled “BAHAR AAYI’ which also features Shabana Azmi in one of the renditions.  Released simultaneously in Pakistan and India, this CD was inaugurated by the Honorable President of India Ma Pratibha Patel, at a special occasion commemorating Faiz A Faiz in Dehli. Tina was presented a memento from her for Outstanding Achievement in the Field of Arts and Music.
