Community Warms Up To Abu Dhabi’s Walk 2012


More than 14,000 tickets already issued
one week ahead of the annual event to mark
World Diabetes Day

Abu Dhabi UAE, November 8 2012: With less than one week to go to Walk 2012 the community has been fast to show its support with more than 14,000 tickets issued.
Walk 2012 is scheduled to take place on November 16 at Yas Marina Circuit just two days after World Diabetes Day. 
Indications are that more than 5,500 registrations have been captured online with another 9,000 tickets secured by a variety of organisations representing the private and public sectors.
With less than one week to go to Walk 2012 the community has been fast to show its support with more than 14,000 tickets issued. Young supporters of campaign seen here walking for diabetes in the last year’s walkathon. 
Organisers are looking for more than 17,000 participants on the day, four times the number who supported the first walk in 2007.  The National Health Insurance Company – Daman is on-board as the event sponsor for the sixth year running.
Walk 2012 is part of Walk for Life, a key pillar in ICLDC’s long-running public health awareness campaign ‘Diabetes-Knowledge-Action’ under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak.
The Community Warms Up To Abu Dhabi’s Walk 2012, November 16 at Yas Marina Circuit, just two days after World Diabetes Day. 
According to the latest figures from the International Diabetes Federation, diabetes affects 19.2 per cent of the UAE population, and the UAE is ranked tenth in the list of countries with highest prevalence, worldwide.
It is known that a tendency towards a sedentary lifestyle and an unhealthy diet has contributed to increased obesity and fuelled diabetes prevalence in the region.

Walk 2012 promotes the attributes of healthy lifestyle by adopting the smart, simple steps of a balanced diet and regular exercise, such as a 30-minute brisk walk each day.
