The entirely FREE festival will take place at Global
Village from November 22 until November 24, 2012

Global Village, the region’s leading cultural, shopping and entertainment
family outdoor destination is set to host Masala! Mehndi! Masti!, North
America’s largest Free South Asian international festival, which is a
celebration of incredibly diverse South Asian and South Asia inspired cultures.
Launched in Toronto, this annual festival has been
running for 11 years and has seen the likes of Jay Sean, RDB, Abhay Deol,
Deepa Mehta, Lisa Ray, Boman Irani and hundreds of other artists who have
presented international entertainment to massive audiences.
The festival is also a platform for local talent, to
give emerging artists a chance at being under the same spotlight as the stars.
In North America, M!M!M! has trail-blazed the way for the creation of many
festivals and events giving opportunities to artists.
Headlining the first edition of the festival outside
of Canada, on opening night Nov 22, 2012, are Bollywood music maestros Salim
and Sulaiman Merchant who will be accompanied by UAE born and raised, Canada
based singer Shweta Subram.
Winners of the reality TV show, “India’s Got Talent”, Shillong Chamber
Choir perform a fusion of western classical and Bollywood on day two (Nov 23,
2012).
The final night is headlined by Trinidadian music ambassador SW Storm
who brings an Indo-Caribbean flavor to the stage (Nov 24, 2012). The three day
event will also see Canadian artists kLoX who merge tabla, violin and
electronica DJ music, Pakistani songstress Shazia Khushk, Afghani-Europeans DJ
Besho and Mirwais performing modern Afghani-pop styles. Bade Acche Lagte Hain
TV actress Tarana Raja will be celebrity hosting the event.
UAE based artists feature stand-up comedian Nitin Mirani, Gurukul Dubai
Kathak Dance Company, bands Tripple Sec, Santripti Vellody, Richard Wilson, Mul
Ghar, N Gill and others have been selected through an open Call for Submissions
that was released earlier in the month and juried by the festival team in
Canada.
A children’s section entitled “Baccha Party!” featuring young talent
from the community and workshops in dance and music will be presented.
This free festival of music, dance and arts will take place on various
stages at Global Village, such as the World Culture Stage, Community Stage and
the India, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Sri Lanka pavilion stages. The bazaars in
these pavilions sell a wide range of traditional and unique products at
fantastic prices. Furthermore, there are numerous South Asian food outlets at
the park offering a delicious traditional treats.
This season, Global Village has ensured the provision
of better services to its visitors, as it began by the announcement of a
prolonged season of 161 days in addition to offering more than 26 restaurants
and 160 kiosks, as well as hosting 37 pavilions representing more than 65
countries. Global Village has also provided more than 16,500 car parking spaces
and a number of VIP packs, in order to make a Global Village visit an
unforgettable experience.
