It really is time for a serious campaign to be brought in to educate people that littering is not acceptable and is illegal. There is little use in putting the occasional bin on the beach when there is no consequence for not using it. It would be a good idea if RAK brought in a Singapore style campaign where the consequence for littering and spitting was a hefty fine. Litter patrols should also be carried out on beaches and areas where people congregate in the desert. There needs to be a lot more public education on the radio, signs put up in several languages - not only Arabic and English and regular patrolling particularly at weekends and public holidays. As some tourists staying in RAK said to me recently 'We can't understand why the beaches here are so DISGUSTING - it was a shock! Don't they care about their environment here?'.
Thanks for sharing such a good information. Its really nice blog...
