In
a regional first, more than 150 medical specialists will hear the latest
findings at the third annual Endocrinology Clinical Update (ECU), a
collaboration between Imperial College London Diabetes Centre (ICLDC) and the
European Society of Endocrinology (ESE), Europe’s leading authourity on hormones.
The two-day conference, on
January 11 and 12 at ICLDC’s Abu Dhabi facility, will feature 24 specialist
sessions and interactive workshops led by seasoned experts, including Imperial
College London’s Professor Karim Meeran who says
the programme content will keep endocrinologists at the specialty’s cutting
edge. Topics being explored will include the latest thinking on thyroid,
calcium metabolism and the metabolic syndrome.

“ECU 2013 is
designed as an interactive event. Rather than have a run of lectures, we have
workshops involving actual case studies with the experts addressing questions
and presenting best practice scenarios,” explained Professor Meeran.
“This
is a very good continuous learning model and the real time discussions will
benefit attendees, providing
essential training for all trainees and an update for established
endocrinologists,
allowing them to participate in discussions on the best course of treatment.
The interactive structure provides a great ideas exchange platform for expert
consultants as they can benefit from fresh ideas and suggestions by participants; it’s a real two-way process.”
Meanwhile, Professor Philippe
