The Abu Dhabi Film Festival (ADFF), powered by twofour54 Abu Dhabi, announces its Call for Entries for the eighth edition of the Festival, to be held October 23 – November 1, 2014. Entries will be accepted until July 15, 2014.
The Festival, since its first edition held in 2007 has evolved into a highly anticipated event which, while bringing the best in Arab and international film and talent to Abu Dhabi, has also remained dedicated to fostering and showcasing the creative genius of those working and creating in UAE and in all the Gulf Countries.
With its program ADFF promotes appreciation and understanding of the art of cinema amongst its enthusiastic multicultural audiences and contributes to Abu Dhabi being positioned as an internationally recognized creative hub for cinema, arts and culture.
In 2013, ADFF received over 2,000 submissions from 102 countries and presented 90 long feature films and 70 short films from 51 countries.
Algerian director Merzak Allouache was presented with several awards during ADFF 2013; Allouache won Best Director from the Arab World, the Variety Middle East Filmmaker of the Year Award and the International Federation of Film Critics (FIPRESCI) award for his film The Rooftops (Algeria). A Touch of Sin (China) won ADFF’s Black Pearl award for Best Narrative Film 2013 as well as receiving accolades around the world including best screenplay at Cannes last year. SANAD funded film My Sweet Pepperland (Iraq) was also screened at Cannes and went on to win the Special Jury Award at ADFF 2013.

We will continue to showcase the best of world cinema by bringing together another thrilling programme for ADFF 2014".
Entries are now open for all categories (feature length or short narrative, animation and documentary films). The selected films will play in the following sections:
Narrative Competition - An international selection of feature-length fiction films.
Documentary Competition - An international selection of non-fiction feature-length films.
New Horizons Competition - An international selection of first and second feature-length narrative films.
Short Films Competition - An international selection of narrative and documentary short films.
Emirates Film Competition - devoted to short films from the UAE and GCC countries, this section presents some of the Gulf’s leading filmmaking talent with an array of awards aimed at helping to support the continued development of the local film industry.
Showcase - A panorama of outstanding recent narrative and documentary features. Films in Showcase are eligible for the Audience Choice Award.
Our World - A panorama of incisive cutting edge films that raise awareness of environmental and social related issues.
In addition to the awards given by ADFF official juries, the films will compete also for The Child Protection Award, The FIPRESCI and NETPAC awards.
Films submitted to the festival should have had their first public screening after November 1st, 2013 and should not have any public screening in the MENA (Middle East and North Africa) region prior to the presentation at ADFF.
ADFF honors exceptional achievements in film with the Black Pearl Awards and with significant cash prizes. Prizes are meant to facilitate future projects from outstanding talents from around the world.
